Hello. I’m Lisa. I served in the Australian military for a time and then the health industry for 25 years. I returned to Australia in January 2023 after travelling around the world solo since 2017. I travelled through Canada, all of the Americas (North, Central and South), Croatia, Europe, England and thirteen countries in Africa. The wonders of nature are endless! Mixing with such diverse people from all over the world has been so rewarding, eye opening and wonderful.
Prior to my extensive travels, I was the fundraising officer for my local Animal Welfare League branch, raising awareness in my community for responsible pet ownership. During my travels I continued with this commitment and volunteered with Best Friends Animal Sanctuary (USA), Ayudar (Guatemala), and for 3 months in a rescue shelter with 60 dogs in Huanchaco, Peru. I have also independently rescued abused and/or injured dogs and cats, paid for their treatment and found them ‘furever’ homes. In the USA, Costa Rica and London for periods ranging from 3 weeks to nearly 6 months, I pet and house sat. I have a Certificate in Animal Studies and worked at my local vets to gain experience of veterinary nurse practices. I also completed a grooming course for dogs and was also a trusted caregiver to my friends’ dogs and treated them as though they were my own, like royalty!
My own dog Mooie, my best friend of 12 years, had many mobility issues for the whole of her life. Her vet was always complimentary about my care of her and was amazed I had her for so long. I was always lifting her 40kg in and out of my car and helping her up stairs to prevent jarring of her limbs.
Important Information: If you think your dog is a vegan, then I am not the sitter for you. Dogs, by their genetic pedigree (from wolves), are clearly carnivores, but are also recognised for their significant omnivorous traits.
My passions are animal welfare, taking care of the environment, hiking trails, going to the gym, learning to bodyboard, bird and wildlife watching, photography, writing my memoir, finding street art with a positive message, feeling the power of a waterfall, reading, adoring the sun, beach and beach clean up days, watching movies and sharing all those pleasures with friends and family.
I renovated my home in Australia and developed a beautiful garden for myself, my dog and other garden creatures to enjoy. I understand how hard you have worked to create your home and I will completely respect the trust you have placed in me to protect it and your family of doggies, kitties, and all other living creatures; cows, chooks, goats, wombats - the lot!
I am currently trekking around Australia towing a caravan and have stopped for a while in the North Brisbane area. I’m looking for my forever home! I know first hand how stressful it is being separated from our pets, but they do cope better with our absence when they have the security and smells of their home to comfort them, and a genuine caring person to maintain their routine.
