More information about this house sitter

As I write this profile our cat Abigail is sitting at the end of our bed snoring. She will be be staying with our extended family while we knock down our house and rebuild from April 2018 onwards.

We are a family of three and our son is 6 years old. Whilst we are excited about rebuilding we know it will be a crazy year and are looking for opportunities to retreat.

I did some house sitting many years back saving for my first house and I was humbled by the kindness and openness of lovely house owners offering this type of partnership. In turn I enjoyed getting to know some gorgeous animals. Cats seemed to show anxiety more than dogs and once we know his/her cues it all starts to settle quickly. Lots of information from owners is super helpful. Either way we treat animals with respect and try and understand their needs. Having said that our son has no experience with dogs. If a dog is well trained we think it will work and it will do our son good.

We are an extrovert couple who live for the January Australian Open and the November Races. On the other hand our son loves to stay home and play games non stop. It's a balancing act for us to respect his need for home time and keeping him active with sports, dance and outdoors. I have started Zumba again. and Mark plays tennis.

Volunteering is important to us and I am mostly involved in volunteer work connected to our sons school. Last year I was a parent rep and helped with general fundraising. I have previously volunteered with Vision Australia for 5 years. Mark is a life volunteer at his tennis club. It's really about community for us.
