More information about this house sitter

I have just retired after 30 years as a primary school principal, used to making decisions for the benefit of a wide variety of stakeholders in many different situations. Skills relevant to house caring include building maintenance, project management, communication skills, financial responsibilities, conflict resolution, waste management, rubbish collection, garden care, social interactions across a wide cross-section of the community, and organising the feeding roster for the school cat.

My wife Jeanette grew up as the eldest daughter in a dairy farming family, with all the responsibility that brings. She is a former aged care nurse, whose duties at home include gardening and, until recently, the care of a very lovable Dalmatian and an elderly cat that had been left in our care when our son left Sydney to live in New Zealand. Our solution to meeting the pet's needs during vacations was to invite people to use our house for their holiday base as casual house sitters (prior to our discovery of Mindahome).

Other pets have included a cat, horses and sheep, plus the oversight of the extended family's cattle herd.

We have built and maintained our own home and garden and understand the need to maintain these assets.

For the past twenty years we have been both hosts and guests in the world wide SERVAS organisation which facilitates international home stay opportunities for travellers of all ages. We have stayed with hosts in America, Europe, Africa and New Zealand and opened our house to people from around the world, with positive experiences all round.

We first took up house sitting as a way of investigating possible new locations for living in retirement, and although we now ave a house at Suffolk Park we have returned to do follow-up stints for some of our new-found friends in our local area of NSW's Northern Rivers, and will continue to travel for house sitting opportunities.

We have the skills and experience to manage all manner of house sitting opportunities, as evidenced in the past two years when we have cared for pets and properties in Sydney, Goonellabah, Kingscliff, Pottsville, Tweed Heads, Ballina, Bangalow, Mackay, Airlie Beach, Cairns, Bargara and Cromwell (in NZ).

Over that period we have come to realise how much owners appreciate that their pets will be able to maintain their daily routines in our care.
