More information about this house sitter

My family is a big part of my life which lead to me recently moving to Perth to be close to my son (Aug 2021) while taking some time off work. I’ve just completed 7 years FIFO work in Darwin so a rest is a nice change.

Home for me is the Gold Coast and I own properties on the east coast but I’m now enjoying being a tourist in Perth and think caring for someone’s home and fur babies would only improve this experience.

I’m a quiet non-smoker and non drinker and love pets. In the past I’ve usually looked after friends pets when they’ve gone on holidays, or when their circumstances have changed, in my home on the Gold Coast and we’ve had a few pets ourselves (3 dogs, 1 cat, a hand raised cockatiel and fish of course 😁). I've cared for a variety of pets, I've detailed my home and pet sits below

When I finished my job in Darwin I house sat up there for Sizzles, a Black and Tan mini dachshund. And now I’m in Perth I've realised I’d like to do more of this. I like my alone time but it would be so much better to share that with a furry friend!

Our family pets include:
- Buddy - Our first love, a Dachshund cross Jack Russell (see pic in tinny with my kids). We got him as a puppy and he was our first family dog that changed my sons life forever.
- Zahita - A jumping bean of a chihuahua (see Pic, cropped from a bigger pic so image not great). Buddy really attached to my son and myself so Zahita was my daughters first pet. She moved on quickly so Zahita became my pet :) She was full of energy and spent her time being Buddy's shadow
- Bear - A rescued Kelpie cross that took months to feel safe with us after being very poorly treated (see pic with 2 others during Xmas with my family a few years ago). An adorable dog that would look at us with eyes that told us he knew he was loved and was thankful for it.
- Scratch - a cheeky cockatiel that came everywhere with us, on our drives to Sydney, to the shops and even to work with me (no pic sorry, in photo albums on Gold Coast). Who knew a bird could be so affectionate!
- Puss - Our neighbours cat! We moved house and before we knew it a black cat started living with us, at first we thought the previous owner had left it behind so we adopted her as our own and she was a blessing, so lovely. But, to our surprise she actually belonged to a neighbour that asked if we keep her as they were moving and their cat didn't want to come with them, we never did find out her real name!

Pets I've cared for:
* Gavin Woods - House sat in Darwin a few times mid 2021, before relocating to Perth after I finished work, and cared for Sizzles (black and tan 13 year old miniature dachshund - see pic). Stayed at Gavin's home for 6 day periods while he travelled for work and cared for Sizzles. Sizzles usually stayed at home by himself during the day while Gavin was at work, although he had just started doggy day care after he had lost his older brother, and loved the extra company. He even slept under the covers with me :)
* David Miller - Cared for Angus (older Staffy/foxy cross) for 4 to 5 months in my home on the Gold Coast after David had to move house and was unable to take Angus with him straight away. I'd known angus for several years so it was easy to offer to look after him, he was so lovely although used my bed as a back scratcher lol
* David Lee (Lees Mechanical) - Cared for Tonka (6 year old Rottweiler) in my home on the Gold Coast for a year or so until he succumbed to a heart condition. This included vet visits, preparing home cooked meals and changes in exercise routines as his health and energy deteriorated. I cared for him Mon-Fri and returned Tonka to his owner who owned the mechanic shop next to my work for approx 75% of weekends. It was a great shared care arrangement for the biggest, cuddliest lap dog imaginable!
* Julie Frost - Cared for Bear (an older partially blind and deaf maltese). We had Bear for many periods from a weekend to a week or so when Julie went on holidays. Once I started work in Darwin my son continued caring for Bear until Julie remarried and moved away. He was placid, cuddly and a very quiet addition to our family.
* Levi & Emily - Jefferson is 7 months old and adorable. My son has had him since he was 10 weeks old (before my move to Perth) and he has completed their new little family, although my son tells me I may only be a nanna to a wildlife sanctuary with another dachshund already planned! I care for Jeff when their schedules align so he won't be at home by himself for long periods (9 hour days). This means I sometimes stay for the day at their place and take Jeff for walks and do some house cleaning and at other times I pick him up and take him to my place and the parks closer to me. Either way, he brings joy to my life and we can't imagine life without him
* Pige - He's a wild pigeon that has adopted us as family at our Gold Coast home. When I'm home he will sit on my knee and allow me to pat him. He's adorable, as long as I hide my toes! See pic
* John Every - John had a lovely labrador who was my first pet sit about 25 years ago. It would only be for a day here or there but this earned me the name of Dog Jody! I know it was intended as a compliment to represent that everyone's dogs liked me and that my number plate was DGS957 .... but I'm not sure it felt that way so much at the time though lol

Update: I've been pet and house sitting for the entire 2022 year! Each pet at each house sit has been special in their own way and I've loved spending time with them. I think I'd feel a little lonely without them. In April my son and his partner adopted a 2nd mini dachshund, Sally, the baby at only 8 weeks old. Jeff was excited to say the least! I spent May and June at their place giving the kids peace of mind while they were at work.

I've had a year full of puppy love!! I look forward to continuing to share this love into 2023 :)
