“Joelle farm-sat for us in March 2018 for just over 2 weeks while we were interstate for a family break. We have a mob of 30 beef cattle, as well as free-range pigs, ducks, chooks, a
kelpie and a cat. We are off the grid, on solar power and rain water.
Nothing is ever straightforward on our little farm and true to form, while we were away, it rained most of the time (not great for the solar power), we were getting connected to the power grid (including cutting through the concrete driveway to run cables), our two pigs had a litter of piglets each (thanks to a wild boar visiting 3 months earlier), one of our ducks had an injury and the cattle got themselves separated between two paddocks.
Joelle was not daunted or flustered by any of this. She kept in communication when needed but was able to solve any issues by herself. Our dog and cat were both calm and relaxed on our return indicating they were totally happy being with Joelle (they are usually a little clingy when we return from being away).
The house was clean, the lawn mowed and the path leaf blown on our return. There were repairs to the chook pen and signs of care and repair in other areas too. Joelle had left us heaps of notes including rain measurements and notes for each day on the calendar. We were absolutely blown away by her ability and her thoroughness. It made our return easy and relaxing which is a new experience for us!
My only concern is that any future sitters may not live up to the standard set by Joelle. We have even asked her to let us know when she is around so we can plan future holidays around her availability!
