More information about this house sitter

Hello, my name is Greg, I am 34 years old, and was born and raised in Canberra.

My main motivation for house sitting is to afford myself time to work on my creative projects, as well as to maximise my savings without the pressure of rent. I am an artist; I specialise in music (all aspects) and writing, though I am also skilled in drawing and scuplting (but fear no messy materials!).

I am a qualified carpenter, so any small jobs you may need doing could well be done during my stay. I use those skills and knowledge in my part-time work as a handyman for an organisation that resettles refugees, where I am highly regarded (I could procure a reference if desired). I do this work because I like to help people (please note that this position also requires a "Working With Vulnerable People" registration). I spent almost 9 years living with and caring for my grandfather (and maintaining his property, of course) as he became older and more dementia-ridden (he is now in a nursing home, and pushing 99). I have spent the ensuing year living with my sister in exchange for the maintenance and many improvements I have made on her house (while keeping her dog fed and her garden green and relatively weed-free). I believe in the maxim: "Leave it in a better condition than in which you found it" (or at least, just as good!), so you can be assured of a pleasant homecoming.

My domestic habits are very agreeable: I cook all of my meals (and eat at the table); I clean up any mess soon after I make it; I keep routines as much as is practical; I'm not interested in holding parties (all my friends have gotten married anyway), and my girlfriend lives in South Africa, so any visitors are unlikely. I don't watch television anymore, and am very frugal with utility usage; I generally only power my computer and whichever light I'm using (and a speaker for music). I do not blast music, whether I am listening or playing; my ears are too sensitive these days. When I play guitar I do not generally plug it in (nor turn it up). I do not drink red wine unless it's offered; if drinking beer at home I generally stop after 2 bottles (if not before). I do not smoke.

Animals were a constant feature of my suburban childhood; my family have owned many dogs and cats, as well as rabbits, guinea pigs, mice, chickens, a horse, fish... and I'm sure there were more. I have a natural affinity with animals, they generally adore me (and the feeling's mutual). So if you have pets, great! They'll be in very safe hands. If not, so be it. I have survived much of my adulthood without them.

I have nothing to hide, and am very open-minded, and willing to please. Any concerns or requests shall be respectfully considered and addressed appropriately. Thank you for considering me.
