My husband Michael (50yrs) and I (45yrs) are an Australian non-smoking/non-drinking professional couple who love animals and prefer quite living. Michael works in IT, and I do contract admin/accounts work, and run my own business – Merry Puppins Dog Minding.
A little bit about us..... Apart from being an IT guru and sound engineer, Michael enjoys jogging/running and regularly competes in events such as the Blackmores Marathon and City2Surf. He also completed the NorthFace100 a couple of years ago, which was quite an achievement! He really enjoys those of our Merry Puppins dogs who are fit enough, as walking/running companions during their stays.
I'm a little bit more low key (AKA nowhere near as fit LOL)... keeping myself busy with caring for the dogs and working from home, I do enjoy a walk but more of a wander than a run! I also enjoy gardening, reading, music and movies and consider myself a bit of a “foodie”, so love cooking and entertaining.
Why do we housesit?..... We initially started housesitting in June 2012, after selling our own place, mainly to take some time to find the perfect new home; however, we enjoyed the house-sitting so much, especially minding the animals, we continued with it full time until Nov 2014, when we found our new home.
We now housesit, mainly just at Christmas time and for other short breaks. My family live on the Sunshine Coast, so when we visit for more than a couple of days, we like to have a bit of a holiday and find a housesit, so as not to impose upon them to put us up the whole time.
Over the 2.5 years we house-sat full time, we had numerous positions and cared for many pets, including: chickens, a turtle, tropical fish, rabbits, guinea pigs, and many cats and dogs of various breeds, sizes and temperaments.
The majority of the dogs (and a couple of the cats) were from rescue type situations and needed special considerations and attention; this is what eventually led me to do a course through Duke University on Canine Emotion & Cognition, and prompted me to start Merry Puppins Dog Minding.
I have also found that I am able to utilise my Remedial Therapies qualifications by treating dogs with essential oils, massage and energy work; this is particularly beneficial to dogs that suffer from separation anxiety.
Even when not from a rescue background, most pets have their own set of funny little idiosyncrasies, and I believe our experience and qualifications, has given us a lot of insight and equipped us to handle all situations with gentle love, expertise, and understanding.
When housesitting we bring our own linen and towels, and ensure that we leave your home (and pets) thoroughly clean and tidy. We also like to leave a few basic things in the fridge so you don’t have to tackle the shops for your first couple of days back home.
Due in part to this attention to detail and level of care we give our animals, we have acquired a few regular housesit clients, and still enjoy minding their dogs at Merry Puppins on occasion. We take great pride in our record of service and have earned excellent references from all our house-sitting positions. Since opening in February 2015, Merry Puppins Dog Minding has also earned excellent recommendations; please see our Facebook page: "Merry Puppins Dog Minding"
For your peace of mind, along with our references, we provide photo identification and have other character references available upon request. Furthermore, as we are both involved with the Sunday School at our church, we have both had WWCC carried out.
I would love the opportunity to discuss your house sitting needs further, so please feel free to message me anytime. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
