More information about this house sitter

What I am looking for
I am currently looking for a house-sit in South-East Queensland from roughly the 5th December 2023 to 15th January 2024 preferably with no pets due to being away 24th Dec to 27th Dec for Christmas.

About me
I'm a South East Queensland based mature, independent and reliable non-smoker who enjoys new experiences and locations, which is how I came to join the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as an Avionics Technician. I've had the privilege of seeing most of the world over the past 13 years but unfortunately due to non-debilitating injury I had to retire in March 2021 and have been full time house sitting since.

I have owned my own property, I spent a lot of time carrying out landscaping works, including building a large retaining wall with the help of my brother. I am very 'handy' and have found I can fix pretty much anything. Additionally, I find my happy place is tending to lawns and gardens.

I am very house proud; I dislike mess and I am very clean and organised (I have the RAAF to thank for that!). Please be assured that your house will be treated the same as if it was my own and your pets will be given all the care and attention they require. Respect for people, property and privacy is at the top of my old school moral compass my dad instilled in me, which also includes honesty, integrity and dependability. I don't even post photos from my house-sits on my Mindahome profile without the permission of the home owner/person I am house-sitting for.

I enjoy keeping fit by running and in my leisure time playing golf. I am also an avid car enthusiast with a passion for European engineering, particularly BMW. I have owned a number of Audis and BMWs and take great pride in the meticulous up keep of my car.

Police Check
I have a current National Police Check certificate (the check was completed 20 July 2022) which I'm happy to provide upon request.

My house-sitting experience
Since retiring I've house-sat for several families looking after a number of four-legged family members in a number of homes via Mindahome bookings (details are below).

01 March 2021 - 09 April 2021, North Western NSW
This house-sit involved looking after a 40 acre farm and caring for 11 year old Bella (dog), 9 month old Scout (pup), Ace the cat and Wort, Ikon & Toby, the 3 horses. In addition to looking after the animals, I voluntarily (with prior permission of the owner) carried out a lot of work around the farm including:
* Mowed the lawns with a ride-on, push mower and whipper snipper.
* Tightened up the battery terminals and steering linkage on the ride-on mower.
* Used silicone to seal the holes in the stable roof.
* Cut down the out of control vines from the fence line and shed.
* Cut down a large overhanging tree branch from resting on top of the shed roof with chainsaw (I also stripped and cleaned the chainsaw including the brake).
* Cleaned out the house's gutters.

April 2021, Fig Tree Pocket, Brisbane
I looked after a lovely waterfront home for a family while they were away for a long weekend and enjoyed the company of their large, friendly dog. When the family returned home, they texted me to say 'Thank you for everything! We'll definitely want you back again!'.

April - 9 May 2021, Aspley, Brisbane
This two week house-sit involved looking after an indoor cat (she's the black and white one giving me a smooch in the photo on my profile) and a very active, cheeky and lovable young Irish Wolfhound (the black dog I'm walking in the photo on my profile).
When the owners returned home, they texted me to say 'The house looks and feels spotless! The animals are happy. We are so thankful.'

9 May - 26 May 2021, Ipswich
This house-sit involved looking after a very shy, lovely cat (Daphne) who warmed up to me very quickly and even wanted cuddles every day. It's a bit blurry but there is a photo on my profile of Daphne enjoying a scratch.

1 June - 31 July 2021, D'Aguilar
A beautiful 4 Bedroom home in D'Aguilar. I was looking after a three year old Great Dane cross, Poppy, and two beautiful long haired cats (mother & daughter) while the owners caravanned around Queensland.

1 August - 30 November 2021, Morayfield
The homeowners were enjoying their caravan trip to South Australia, and it was my absolute pleasure to look after the large variety of plants in the gardens and keep the lawns mown and watered. We spoke on the phone frequently (so that I can keep them updated on the COVID19 situation in Queensland) and they were very happy with everything upon returning home too. I was even invited back for street Christmas gathering and BBQ and have been asked back for when they travel to NZ in 2022.

6 Dec 21 - 30 Apr 22, Morayfield
Maintaining lawns and a large variety of hanging/potted plants and gardens, Maintaining the Spa and regular contact with the homeowner for updates and relaying information in regard to mail.

31 Apr 22 - 02 Sep 22, Cornubia
Keeping the lawns, gardens & pool maintained while the owners are enjoying the NT during this cold winter. Occasionally updating the owners on any out of the ordinary mail that has arrived.

22 Sep - 11 Oct 2022, Burwood Vic
This three week house-sit involved looking after a fantastic little Maltese X Bichon. When the owner returned home, she advised me that her dog "was not upset with her for going away which meant he'd had his own holiday with me during this time."

16 Oct – 9 Dec 2022 Eatons Hill
1.5 Acre property with gardens, an orchard, pool and spa

30 April – 8 Dec 2023 Victoria Point
Keeping the lawns, gardens & pool maintained while the owners are enjoying their caravan adventure throughout Australia. Occasionally informing the owners on any out of the ordinary mail that has arrived and accommodating tradespeople while they find a small water leak.

My experience caring for animals
I have an 13-year-old Llasa Apso named Pooky and a British Shorthair cat called Shadow who both live with their mum full-time and I enjoy visiting where I can. There are a couple of photos with Pooky, Shadow and I on my old lawn in my profile. I am an animal lover and I am experienced with all types of animals as I grew up on a hobby farm on the far north coast of NSW and have enjoyed the company of pets all my life. I've looked after dogs (my favourite animal), cats, chickens, goats, cows, sheep and horses.

Why I want to house sit
I have retired and do not have any dependents. I don't have any pets that live with me. I have the flexibility to travel and the opportunity to spend a little time in whatever part of the country I might like to visit next. I am studying now and will be for the next 12 months which leaves me in a perfect position to be a reliable house sitter, and if you book me, I will never cancel on you.

Being a quiet person, I tend not to venture out much in the evening. Instead, you will find me relaxing in front of the TV. Having the company of your furry or feathered friends is a bonus. Your pets will never be left alone overnight.
