I find myself at a point in midlife where my two children have flown the coop and I am free to explore a myriad of experiences open to me if I am willing to travel on the winds of personal change.
I am 50 years of age, a fit, active, open minded woman with a passion for cycle touring and lending a hand along the way. I have a strong interest in sustainable building practice, environmental conservation, intentional community, energy efficiency and sustainable future planning.
In 2016, I cycled the North island of NZ, travelling 1400 km in 22 days. On that journey I stayed with many strangers who welcomed me into their homes. I enjoyed the spontaneous experience of voluntary work in return for a bed and a meal and the sharing of stories and experiences during those short stays.
I am a versatile person with a 30 year history of hands on building and horticultural experience that began when I bough my first property at the age of 18. I built the first of 5 homes, I would eventually be involved in constructing or renovating, at the age of 22. Since then I have also mentored other women in home building projects and diy/outdoor interests.
My varied skills mean that I am fully capable of managing anything from a small inner city cottage to a large rural property.
I live in the granite high country near Stanthorpe, Qld on a large Nature Refuge property. My present off grid home is sustainably built from natural and recycled materials and was until recently, a popular Airbnb until I decided I needed a break from the place. My most recent project has been a tiny log cabin that will be a home in between journeys I intend to take as part of a search for more meaning in life and experiences with other people and communities. Humble and curiosity made me who I am, but a hands on/get right to the grit of things approach to life made me jill-of-all-trades and brought me to this juncture.
My perspective of life comes out of a caring, giving, compassionate nature. I have voluntarily cared for an elderly man for a couple of years helping him in the house and yard. I also look after other people's dogs and house sit for friends occasionally. Dogs love me because I like walking and throwing sticks and cats think I'm a great rubbing post. I've had chooks for years all named after politicians, (yes the red ones were Pauline and Julia) and I am a keen, redheaded, vegetarian gardener.
