John & Mel are a recently retired couple who have been happily married for 30 years. Having left Brisbane apartment living, we are keen to explore Australia and provide house sitting assistance as we travel with our vehicle and van. Having previously owned dogs, we are both animal lovers. But while travelling we prefer to be free to care & share our love with other people’s pets. We are non-smokers and have been described as clean and tidy.

Following the work, we have moved around, owning & living in apartments, houses and on acreage. For the last few years, we have been empty nesters enjoying our careers. We have downsized from a large home in the country to an inner-city Brisbane apartment and now to an RV with no fixed address. We love catching up with old friends, making new friends, bushwalking, sightseeing, and exploring the great outdoors. We also enjoy exploring urban areas, visiting landmarks, art galleries, and museums.

John was born & bred on farming properties. With a 40-year career in Defence, working as a mechanical fitter, a technician, then as an engineer, he has a wide range of skills including a handyman, renovating, mechanics, and gardening. John enjoys investigating and solving problems and following his AFL team. Friends describe John as a patient person who likes to take things as they come and enjoys finding the lighter side of life. Animals tend to be a good judge of character and they are at ease with John.

Mel’s career has been as a librarian and teacher. Her skills include creative artwork, organisation, life admin, records management and tech support. Mel enjoys looking after plants, reading, researching, photography, craft retreats, and developing tech skills in herself and others. Friends describe Mel as a resilient and creative person who likes to plan and organise but also enjoys being flexible.
