About this house sitting position in Aldersyde East of Brookton

Please do read our whole profile: The dates stated below are flexible. I am finding a lot of folk have booked well into 2021 and many are not willing to come to WA. " Oh what they miss out on" as Anne of Green Gables would say! We prefer people to stay up to three months (longer would be wonderful) if possible, but will accept shorter stays (not less than 6 weeks) if that is all people can commit to.

This is not a paid position. Right now we are looking for help from the 15th of May 2021 to at least the end of June 2021, longer if possible - if you are only available for 6 or 8 weeks during that time that would help a lot..

We do cover accommodation, electricity and water as well as whatever is available from the veggie garden and/or orchard at the time. Your own transport is essential if you wish to travel independently and non-smokers appreciated especially over the summer months.

We need someone to take over the care of our menagerie (we are here a lot and can help out if you need time out for appointments or day trips), which consists of: Three caged rescue birds (most have been injured and will not survive in the wild), various poultry, 2 dogs, and 1 cat. At the moment there a few orphaned, (unexpected) summer lambs, 2 bottles but they should be weaned onto pellets within the next two weeks, making it simpler to care for them.
There may be a few Orphaned lambs later, mainly in the time frame of April - end of July. Once in the swing of it, this all takes about an hour morning and night. I am willing to work in with any one if you would rather not be involved in some of the things needing to be done each day.
Accommodation is a granny flat with bathroom and toilet, basic furnishings, bed linen, blankets is provided, cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils, stove/oven, a fridge/freezer, R.C. Air Con and a washing machine - about 100 metres from the main house - a van can be pulled alongside. Applicants need their own transport. We live 120 mile east of Perth on a wheat and sheep farm which borders the Yenyenning Lakes system. We are 20 mile East of Brookton - as general groceries and meat, there is an IGA store, a butcher, News agency, Post Office, Hardware store, 2 Road houses and a deli' in town. I go to town once a week on a Wednesday and can get an order for you, or you can come with me - I volunteer at the local school and am usually away for around 3 hours.
We have a Lemon tree, some home grown Rhubarb, tomatoes, parsley, Kale, sweet potato, some herbs, pumpkins, zucchini, baby squash and eggs - all of which you are welcome to use - availability does depend on the seasons and I am always adding to the garden to increase the amount and variety of plants grown.
There are several interesting "touristy" spots to visit, such as: Wave Rock, about 2 and half hours East of us and on the way there, just before the town of Corrigin, is the "Dog Cemetery", a rather unique idea for people to put their precious pets to rest and quite popular.
There used to be an Emu and an Alpaca farm that people could visit, in that area too, but I am not sure if it is still open to the public.
Pingelly, about a 40 minute drive South of us has an observatory for gazing at the stars.
Dryandra is between Pingelly and Narrogin and has an ongoing, native animal refuge and breeding programme.
York is an historic town ship, I think the first settled out of the Perth area in the early days - it has a motor museum and special market days, various weekend festivals - lots of very old buildings and novelty shops.
Northam (to the North of us) and Narrogin (to the South) are both just over an hours’ drive and are much bigger centres.
About a half hour North of our farm is County Peak, from which you can have a 360 degree view of the surrounding farm lands and lakes - very pretty. We also have a small lake on our property stocked with bream - nice eating if you are into fishing!!!
Please let me know you have received this contact - thank you - Glennis Mills.
