About this house sitting position in Canberra
*PAUSED*
- Given the uncertainty and travel restrictions due to COVID-19, we've paused this search for a housesitter -
We live in a four-bedroom home with a lovely garden that backs on to a nature strip and oval. There's a country feel to the location and it's very close to an extensive nature reserve and mountain walks. There are really great cycle paths and it takes about 20/25 minutes to cycle into the main shopping area (Civic) and 5 minutes to cycle to a big supermarket and vibrant restaurant strip (Dickson). There's a bus stop just up from the house and you can get to Civic in 15 minutes that way.
We have central heating which you may need as Canberra can be chilly. The house is double-brick with a recently renovated kitchen. It's a sturdy, comfortable place with natural outlooks from every window. We've everything else you should need including dishwasher and washing machine, but we don't have a dryer. We use Chromecast to watch television online so you could use that, too.
Our dog, Olive, will be 9 months old when we go away. She is a rescue dog but thankfully has managed to escape many of the difficulties rescues can have. We think she's a kelpie/blue heeler cross, but she could have koolie in there and border collie, too. She adores people (she's a 'velcro-dog', in fact, always keen to know what we're up to and to be involved), other dogs, belly rubs, swimming, learning tricks, licking faces (though we discourage this!), playing tug-of-war, and going for walks, of course. We take her out twice a day for about an hour - sometimes this is just simply running around with other dogs on the oval behind our house.
She sleeps inside (in our room at the moment, but on the floor, not the bed), is toilet-trained, and is allowed onto the couch when invited. She stays in the backyard and laundry when we go out and we don't like to leave her for more than 4 hours.
We adore her and think she's great company. Given she is a working dog breed, she needs to be mentally stimulated and well as physically. It would be great if our house sitter was willing to carry on the training we've begun with her and give her puzzles and things to keep her occupied when they went out.
The house and garden is low maintenance. Some watering of plants and the fledgling veggie patch would be great. Collecting post, too. But the main thing is caring for Olive. Read more...
