About this house sitting position in Dubbo, NSW 2830
Hello!
We are in the search for interested person/s to look after our farm so we may be able to visit family.
Life for us is 100acres just south of Dubbo, central west NSW. We have been in drought for some time….if you can do an effective rain dance then you’re more than suitable for the job! We have a dam with enough water for stock and limited garden. The house is on rainwater with 6 large catchment tanks.
We have two over active dogs – 3yr old male border collie and female kelpie. Meg most likely suffers separation anxiety and forever at the boss’s side. She needs to be taught not to jump up on people…I’ve failed the challenge. Max can always be found at the fence keeping a watchful eye on ‘his’ sheep, horses and alpacas. He is yet to realise he will never catch the galahs or crows, despite flying across the yard himself everytime they go over!
There are two older horses… Callie and Milton who we don’t ride anymore and have become expensive paddock ornaments. I can’t face the thought of selling or giving them away. Mr Ed is a new acquisition! A very friendly miniature horse that we have just bought for the grandkids. Three alpacas since the birth of a little one 5 days ago, and 15 dorper sheep. Ewes are lambing at the moment and we have three healthy little ones running around. Attempting to sell 6 sheep in order to pay for feed for the others.
Daily tasks for us are:
Dogs and cats fed at dusk. Forgot to mention the cats! Two ginger brothers free-to-good-home off facebook. Beautiful boys to keep down mice numbers and deter snakes.
Horses have mixture of oaten chaff/lucern chaff/soft weight watered down and fed daily. Have been most fortunate in not having to feed other stock, however grass diminishing and no rain on the horizon so we are seeking hay for them now.
Being new to this mind-a-home thing, we thought of asking for someone with their own van to take care of the animals here. For the right respondent, I’m sure we would permit access to the house so you may sit in front of a wood fire at night. This is something I haven’t discussed with the husband yet. It can be cold here in Dubbo though. Must admit our dogs enjoy the home comforts of lying in front of the fire at night! Yes, they do come inside when not grubby!
I have two weeks leave approved 27th July-10th August.
Kind regards
Jane
