About this house sitting position in Mullett Creek
Hi,
We live at Mullett Creek, which is 46 kilometres north of Bundaberg. We have a quiet rural 5 acre setting. The ocean is visible 5 kilometres away, and the surf can be heard at night and on big surf days.
We are looking for a Non Smoking house sitter couple without their own cat or dogs, from 14th October to 4th November 2020.
There is ample room for a caravan or motor-home, either in the open or in a lock up shed.
If mobile homing, you are welcome to arrive earlier, and stay on longer if you so wish.
There is also a good internet connection, and unlimited local / STD and calls to Aussie mobiles included.
It is preferable that the sitters be experienced in maintaining a sub tropical garden. The important thing is that it gets watered regularly if conditions are dry. There is an extensive underground watering system. It just requires the applicable taps to be turned on every couple of days for a few hours if it does not rain. General rule of thumb, turn on 6 taps for 2 hrs every third day. Being October, it could be wet or dry. Usually still dry.
There will be no need for mowing during that time.
On the property, we call our Prickle Farm, we have a small fruit orchard, flower and shrub gardens, 30 pigeons, one sleepy indoor cat and a few fish in the dam.
Here, is also on the migratory bird path for many birds doing their annual migration from Antarctica, NZ, and Southern Australia. We put out some food and sometimes they have a top up on the way past. We also have a few resident rare species who have decided to stay in the area. All of these wild birds can and will survive successfully without us, or without feeding.
There are no outdoor 4 legged animals, and because of the ground birds we do not allow other dogs or cats on the property. Across the road is a very large State forest and domestic animals are not allowed there either. We have previously had sitters with their own birds.
There is also an elderly couple as tenants in a nearby second house on the property. As they are retired, and often wish to visit their relatives for several days at a time, I would not impose on them to caretaker for this period of time, however they are easy to get along with, very knowledgeable and enjoy fishing, and beer brewing.
The home is a comfortable 3 bedroom brick with all the usual trappings of retirement.
