What is House Sitting?

House Sitting is where Home Owner's, planning on being away for a period of time, arrange for one or more House Sitters to look after their property. The House Sitters agree to live there rent-free in exchange for taking care of it. Duties may include feeding and taking care of the homeowner's pets, performing general maintenance (gardens and lawns for example), readdressing mail, and generally making sure that everything runs smoothly just as if the owner were at home. They also provide property security by just being there. Conditions of the agreement such as duties of the House Sitter, whether a bond is required, what bills are to be paid by the House Sitter are all open to negotiation.

A House Swap is where Home Owner's, wanting to holiday in other parts of the country or the world, arrange to exchange homes for an agreed period of time on a given date. The main benefits being free accommodation as well as comfort in the knowledge that their home is being taken care of by like minded people while they are away.
