Experienced Homeowner Ready to Care for Your Home and Pets
Hello!
I’m British but have lived in Germany for over 30 years, where I work as a university lecturer. I’m married with two adult children and will be retiring in April 2027. I’m planning to spend around three months in Australia, initially on my own, and hope to use that time for a series of house sits. Afterwards, my husband will join me, and we will travel around Australia together.
We have always been quite an international family and have lived and worked in Germany, Sweden and the United Arab Emirates, so finding my feet somewhere new is something I’m very comfortable with.
Why Australia?
I’d like to do something a little different while I have the freedom to do it – before grandchildren appear on the scene (ever hopeful!).
House sitting particularly appeals to me because I would much rather have a home base and get to know a place and its community than simply pass through as a tourist. Depending on where I am and the length of the sit, I would also be interested in getting involved locally, perhaps through some voluntary work.
As a homeowner myself, I understand how much trust is involved in leaving your home – and, where applicable, your pets – in someone else’s care. I would treat someone else’s home with the same care and respect that I would want for my own, and would take pride in keeping it secure, clean and well looked after.
I’m also very comfortable caring for pets. I have experience looking after dogs for other people and am happy to follow their usual routines and any instructions left by their owners. I know how important it is for pets to feel secure and comfortable in familiar surroundings while their owners are away. In a more rural setting, I think I’d particularly enjoy having a four-legged companion around! I would, however, be equally happy with a sit without pets. I’m also a non-smoker.
I have my own garden and am happy to look after gardens and do the usual jobs that go with them. I’m also an experienced driver, so I would be very happy to consider sits in rural areas as well as in towns and cities.
Once retired, I will have considerable flexibility with dates and locations. I’m planning to spend around three months, possibly longer, house-sitting in Australia sometime between May and December 2027, before my husband joins me for our travels. I’d be happy to shape my plans around the right house-sitting opportunities. I’m particularly interested in longer sits of one to two months in one place, although shorter stays could also fit in between them.
For me, this is an opportunity to experience a little of everyday life in Australia. I’m really looking forward to having a temporary home base, getting to know the local area and, hopefully, caring for some lovely homes and pets along the way.
