Queensland, Australia's second-largest state in area, has more than 4.5 million people living mostly along its beautiful coastline. 10 of Australia's 30 largest cities are found in Queensland, with the capital Brisbane as the largest of them. The fast-growing economy of Queensland has spurred an influx of tourists and migrants, bringing with them many opportunities for house sitting assignments.

The natural focal point for house sitting in Queensland is Brisbane, with its more than 800,000 homes housing more than 2 million people. The city boasts a vibrant entertainment scene, with live theatre and music at the top of the list. The Queensland Gallery of Modern Art is the most modern in Australia, and one of the main attractions in the Queensland Cultural Centre, together with the Queensland Museum and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre.

Moving around Brisbane while house sitting is easy. You can take the bus, train or the high-speed ferry service, the CityCat, or enjoy its almost 30 km. of bicycle pathways around the Brisbane River. These will take you to popular spots like the South Bank Parklands, the City Botanic Gardens and the Portside Wharf.

When house sitting in Queensland, you can take your pick from many other places near lush rainforests, dry interior areas, or the exciting coasts. Cairns is called the Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, and just north of it is the World Heritage-listed site, the Daintree Rainforests. Or, you can do your house sitting at the Gold Coast, also known as Australia's Theme Park Capital, with Dreamworld, Movie World and Sea World among its five amusement parks.

Between Brisbane and the Gold Coast is Logan City, Queensland's poker capital with more than 2,000 “pokies”, each paying out almost $6,000. It borders the Scenic Rim, the City of Ipswich and Redland City. You'll also find in Logan City almost 900 parks and reserves like the Alma Park Zoo, the state's oldest zoo.

There are many places all over the state that will make house sitting in Queensland an experience you won't forget.
