More information about this house sitter
When we rescued a five year old German Shepherd Rottweiler, Buffy, she was heart-worm positive, dog-reactive, and had been at the animal refuge for about six months. We saw her through the heartworm treatment, got her off two lots of anti-anxiety meds, and managed her dog-reactivity.
We know what it's like to care for a 40kg dog who doesn't play well with other dogs, walking her at odd times to avoid other dogs. We lost her to osteosarcoma when she was nine years old. We understand caring for dogs as part of the family.
We have since fostered siblings Millie and Monty, for the same animal refuge. Millie was a type two diabetic requiring daily insulin, underweight and living with minimal vision due to cataracts. She was such an inspiration with her courageous approach to discovering new places. Weighing in at 9kg, Monty is a real little man who now loves twice daily walks. We cared for him for five weeks, and he took a piece of our heart when the refuge found him a permanent home. He loves a tummy scratch, which we were only too pleased to give!
We've also cared for foster dog Ox, a one year old american bulldog cross, with a life-limiting congenital heart condition. We provided him with a quiet, calm and loving environment, while the refuge organised a permanent home.
We love walking dogs and caring for other household animals. We are happy gardeners who are not shy of weeds, and taking good care of your plants and property whilst you're away.
Two house-proud dog-lovers, in March 2026, we are packing up and living out of our suitcases.
Having worked in aged and disability care, we know how precious good health is, and have the opportunity to have some new adventures in our early-50s! So we can entertain your pets, take care of your home and gardens, whilst being grateful for the opportunity to explore your local area.
Peta works part-time as a remote Administration Assistant (using only a small amount of internet), and Steven works casually on a FIFO arrangement (our house sits will likely largely be arranged outside of Steven's roster).
We love bushwalking and picnics, and where possible, sharing these adventures with four-legged friends.
We are people of our word, reliable, responsible, both hold Working with Children Blue Cards and the Yellow NDIS Worker Screening Cards. We are both non-smokers and are not drug users.
Fostering dogs for our local animal refuge has been a rewarding experience for us. Whilst dogs can be adaptable and resilient, their loyalty is their downfall when separated from their owners.
Peta grew up on 5.5 acres, familiar with caring for chooks and horses. She lived on a cattle property in remote Northern Territory for a period and has some experience with cattle, horses and goats.
Steven is used to working remotely, his career has been as a Chef, progressing to management of remote work camps.
We are great with plants too, both potted and planted, and will ensure your gardens are well taken care of. Collecting mail, managing rubbish collection, picking up animal poo, walking dogs at least twice per day (or as your pet is used to), on-time feeding, changing out drinking water .. these are all basic things you can be sure will happen.
We are experienced with caring for palliative dogs, exuberant dogs, friendly and not-so-friendly cats; and administering medication including daily insulin.
It will be our absolute joy to care for your pets in their own home, whilst you are away. We will be happy to send you photos and updates; as much or as little as you want!
If you are interested in booking us prior to March 2026, please note we are limited to Qld sits only... sorry! Read more...
