Hi, I’m Ralph and I’m on a 2 year career break exploring Australia as a Working Holiday Maker. After 8 years at a desk in Bristol in the UK I’ve decided to shake things up by exploring the unique and beautiful Australia, focusing on my wellbeing, leaning into my creative side and doing some self-discovery. I am at the upper age limit for a working holiday visa and have become accustomed to and enjoyed living alone in my own flat. Consequently I’m less inclined to hit the hostels and house shares than your typical rough-and-ready backpacker. In addition, living and travelling solo can be lonely at times so sharing a space with a pet would be a very welcome respite and would allow me to indulge my love for cats and dogs.

I grew up with cats and dogs at home, and did some dog fostering a few years ago. I seem to have an affinity with animals - for instance since the start of my trip in October 2025 I have surprised 2 dog owners when their usually cautious or grumpy pooch is snuggling into me getting belly rubs within a few of minutes of meeting, and I’ve enjoyed befriending a local cat on the street where I’m currently staying. Not to mention, growing up in a dairy farming area in England I’ve always enjoyed mimicking cow moos and sheep bleats to engage them in conversation - it’s such a joy when you do it convincingly enough that they respond!

While I’ve definitely spent more time with dogs and would historically have classed myself as more of a ‘dog person’, in recent years I’ve experienced a blossoming affection and fascination with cats, planting one foot firmly in each camp, so I’d love the opportunity to spend some proper time with them again. Yes, admittedly this means I’m less experienced with cats than dogs, but don’t let that put you off as I’m a mature, sensible, loving person who is always wanting to learn, am a habitual info looker-upper and am happy to follow any instructions if you have a quirky feline friend.

I’m responsible, respectful, careful, considerate, clean, thorough, and a problem solver by profession, so your home and pet would be in safe hands and good company with me.

While on my trip I’m engaging in creative pursuits, notably practising my guitar, singing and juggling, and trying my hand at rapping, stand-up comedy and essay-writing. I’m also putting energy into personal wellness by, among other things, exercising and practising yoga daily and looking to find some sporting activities, some of my favourites being basketball, badminton, volleyball, dancing, surfing, ultimate frisbee and pool.
