I’m a practitioner of the Dismal Science i.e. I'm an Economist. I worked for the Australian Commonwealth Public Service for about 20 years; held positions in: the Department of Defence; Parliament House, in a Minister’s Office; the Australian Tax Office; and the Department of Finance.
I'm now semi-retired and work as a consultant and, thus, I am a digital nomad and can live and work anywhere I want to.
I enjoy: Scuba-diving; doing Pub Trivia Contests; and Travelling. I am a member of a Toastmasters Club in Canberra.
I have a girlfriend who is likely to accompany for some or all of the time I am house-sitting. I also have a couple of close friends who are also semi-retired that occasionally accompany when travelling outside of Canberra.
I have done housesitting before privately, including looking after pets, and found a good option is for me to arrive the day before the owners leave, spend some time together with the owners and their pet(s) and in the process get an in-person orientation of the property.
I had a cat, a dog and goldfish when I was a child and enjoy minding pets.
I have a Top Secret Security Clearance. I also have a Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) Card that is issued by the ACT Government, in conjunction with the Australian Federal Police. Having a WWVP Card in Canberra allows you to work with children (eg manage or coach sports teams) and adults with disabilities, including mental disabilities. You can only get this Card if you are deemed to be a person of good character eg don't have any problems past or present with the courts and have good credit rating history.
I grew up in South Yarra, Melbourne and I am keen to visit family and friends there. I also have family and friends in Sydney. (So I am happy to accept housesitting opportunities at short notice for Sydney or Melbourne.) Read more...
