More information about this house sitter

Hello fellow 'Mindahome-ers',

We are Christine and Gerard, a responsible Dutch couple travelling the world while working remotely.

At the moment, we are looking for a long-term house sit from around 9 July, although we are flexible by a few days. Ideally, we are looking for a sit with access to public transport, or the free use of a practical car.

We genuinely love animals and enjoy giving them attention, care and companionship. Because we work from home, we are often around during the day, so pets are not left alone for long periods.

At the same time, we also like to go out occasionally for dinner and to explore the local area. So if you are looking for sitters who will be at home almost every day, all day, we may not be the right match.

Christine is an Online Love Coach, and Gerard is a former Materials Manager who now manages websites and technical support. We are both calm, responsible and practical people, and we treat every pet as part of the family and every home with great care.

We have many years of experience with house sitting and home exchanges through Intervac. Since 2024, we have also been members of TrustedHousesitters, where we have completed several sits, all with five-star reviews. We have cared for large dogs as well as cats, and we genuinely enjoy creating a calm, loving environment while their owners are away.

We are non-smokers, tidy, reliable and respectful of every home we stay in.

As this may be useful to know for some homeowners, Christine is vegetarian and Gerard is what you could call a flexitarian. He does not eat seafood such as crab, clams or octopus, although fish is fine for him. We are very easy-going about food and always respect the household we are staying in.

A small but serious anecdote:
In the past, we once experienced people trying to trespass on the property. The first time we saw the back gate open, we thought it might have been the wind. The second time, we secured the gate with an extra rope we found in the house, but it was opened again.

At first, we wondered whether the dogs had somehow done it because they had seen interesting animals passing by. During those days, we of course stayed at home. With help from the neighbours, someone fixed the back gate with a piece of wood, and with the homeowners’ permission, we placed a camera on the premises.

Since then, we’ve had no further trouble with ‘unwanted visitors’, or with the wind. We wanted to share this because when a home is more remote, it helps to be calm, practical and self-reliant, without panicking unnecessarily.

Kind regards,
Christine and Gerard

P.S. Two photos were taken in Fiji with two rescue dogs. The photos of us with the cats were taken in Michigan.

P.S. I have tried twice to verify my ID on MindMyHouse. I uploaded clear passport photos, front and back, without glare and in good light, plus a clear selfie. Both attempts were rejected, including one reason stating that my passport was not valid, even though it is valid until 2035.

At this point, I have stopped trying, as all conditions were met. We both are verified and are willing to give proof to you.
