About this house sitting position in Auburn
We live on a 55 acre property (20 acres are vineyard) and have a variety of pets- 11 goats, 16 chickens, 1 dog and 1 cat. They are not too demanding, but do require daily care with food and water. There's a very comfy home, a queen sized bed and a large pool to enjoy. The pool is not heated in winter and there would be some easy jobs to do with the pool- no experience required. Sitters need to be confident to drive the Gator (see photos- it is automatic & easy to master), scoop out feed for the goats, pour their water and collect the eggs. You can either eat, keep them or sell the eggs from our established honesty box. You won't need to tend the vines!! The nearest shop/town is 7 min drive away. There's a large vegetable garden from which to eat. Great wifi but no mobile phone reception....Think of it as a way to experiment with a digital detox. There's a landline, wifi calling, facetime/messenger/etc, email, streaming Netflix-so you are still "connected", but no mobile calls in or out. Most text messages will get through. It would be ideal to have a person or couple who are observant, ready to be hands-on with country life and able to problem-solve if unforeseen things pop up. It would be essential to have the sitter here for 3-4 hours early in the day on Thursday 2 July, to get a thorough induction to the property before we head off at lunchtime. You could even come the day before so it is not rushed and you have time to ask questions. There is ample room for a caravan if you are travelling in a van. Peter and Marian were amazing house sitters in every way. They cared for our beloved older labrador Sal and our cat Vinnie, as well as 16 chickens and 11 goats. The goats had daily moves to seek shade in the hot conditions and were back in their home paddock at night, quite a chore. The pool was perfectly sparkling when we returned; actually better than when we left! Our large vegetable garden was thriving from the thorough watering it had over the 10 days in very warm weather; many thanks for that huge effort. The house was spotless. Peter and Marian messaged while we were away to keep us up to date, but they were pro-active and were clearly going to be able work through any problems that may have arisen. 10/10 for effort,care and confidence.
