Hello to all interested housesitters! We have had a last minute cancellation from a confirmed housesitter due to work commitments. We are looking for a reasonably active couple or mature female. I am a recently retired school teacher and my partner is a council worker. We are both very easy-going, sociable people who will be travelling overseas.

Whilst we are away, our main priority is our 2 rescue dogs. They are both a bit nervy with new people and men in particular. Abby is a 10 yr old English Pointer. We have had her since she was 2 but she can still be anxious at times. She takes a while to trust people and she is frightened of sudden loud noises and new situations. She is terrified of thunder. She is a little darling, very loving and enjoys the company of all other dogs. Callie is our 5 year old gorgeous greyhound. She is an affectionate soul, loves other dogs but is timid and it takes a while to endear herself to people. They sleep downstairs in their beds. The dogs are used to daily walking off-leash. We have a safe local area which is a 5 minute drive (an ex racetrack) that they are used to or a local beach (20 mins) with a leash-free section. We have a gate to prevent the dogs coming upstairs to bedroom areas. We feed our animals twice a day. Our local vet has been made aware that if there are any issues, expenses will be covered. Our animals are all on monthly tick, flea and intestinal worm protection and will require a dose while we are away. All pet food will be more than adequately stocked in a separate freezer in the garage and everything will be clearly marked. There will be more than enough! The 4 pond fish are fed twice a week. We also have a family of very spoilt magpies and some butcherbirds who visit frequently for feeding.

We have a few indoor plants and outdoor gardens and pot plants which will require weekly watering. You shouldn't need to mow as it will be winter.

If you are applying from a distance, we would really like our housesitters to join us for a couple of days prior to leaving (included in the dates) and get to know our animals, their quirks, feeding, walking spots and other household and garden stuff. You are very welcome to stay with us or organise your own accommodation prior to us leaving. If you are local, a couple of visits prior to departure would be great.

Our house is quite small and compact. It is Cape Cod style. Downstairs (entry level) is the kitchen, living/dining room and laundry (with extra toilet). We have electric reverse cycle air conditioning downstairs in the living areas. Upstairs has 3 bedrooms:- our bedroom, a spare bedroom with a queen bed and a single bedroom for visiting grandchildren. All beds are very comfortable and have electric blankets. The bathroom and separate toilet are also upstairs. In the bedrooms upstairs we have electric heaters and portable air conditioners (which you won't need!) We live on a fairly quiet street. We have a lovely outlook, being situated across the road from the local high school ag farm with several paddocks often full of sheep and cows. Our back fence has a gate which backs on to a 3- sided fenced council reserve which the dogs like to have a run in (long leash for the greyhound). We are within easy walking distance of the shopping centre, cafes, pubs, restaurants. We are a 20 minute drive from the beach. A vehicle will be available for use.
