About this house sitting position in Bridgetown

Seeking a house sitter to care for our cat and chickens

Our home sits on 36 acres, on the edge of the small town of Bridgetown, a 3hour drive south of Perth. We are surrounded by farmland and enjoy watching the neighbours cows and sheep grazing- they have access to the majority of our property too in a fenced off area. It is just a 2 min drive to Town or a half hour walk from the bottom of our driveway.

Our house is a simple open plan, single level house with amazing views and a wrap around veranda. We have recently improved our solar setup and installed ducted air conditioning which can be run for the majority of the day while the sun is shining. We are completely off grid meaning we rely on rain for our water and solar for electricity. As such we need someone who will respect our water and power restrictions.

Our cat is an attention seeker who demands love and brushing a lot. He does require daily brushing to ensure his fur does not get matted, but currently not as much as usual due to his new haircut. He is mostly an indoor cat- if he gets out, he stays close by and will come back on his own. We have a small flock of under 20 chickens. The chickens just need food, water and to be let in and out of their house daily.

Gardening is at a minimum, just a couple of plants that may need a sip of water. If you love pottering around in a garden, you would be more than welcome to go nuts in ours! It is a weeders delight, but we don't expect anyone to actually do gardening.

We have a guest room set up with a double bed/ futon- bedding and towels supplied. If you'd prefer to stay in a caravan/ camper trailer/ van, we have plenty of flat space to accommodate and access to electricity and water. Our driveway is steep and gravel so can intimidate some, however, we have never had issue with caravans, camper trailers or the woolies delivery truck getting up and down. The guest room is a toddlers room, toys removed and cupboards emptied- just a few tractor stickers on the walls. As such, a travel cot can be available for use if need be. My daughter’s room can be available too with single bed and single mattress on the floor if needed.

Due to previous issues, I do need to touch on a couple of things:
- I don't mind if you are not experienced with cats or chickens, but an understanding of general animal behaviour and needs is a must. Ensuring they always have access to water and food is essential.
- It is important that our house sitters spends every night at our house for the duration of the sit and be available to let the chickens out and lock them back up at reasonable times
- While I understand not everyone chooses to drive, I would really prefer to have a sitter who has a car or at least be given advanced notice if you will be arriving by bus and not have your own transport while here. As I’ve said, our driveway is steep- I struggle to push a pram up with 1 child in it. On this note, we do not have UBER or taxi in town and you will need to find your own way around town.

If you think our home sounds like a nice little getaway, we would love to hear from you! We are looking at leaving around the 27th December and returning on the 27th or 28th January.
