My regular sitter moved away so I'm looking for someone in the Coogee area of Sydney who is looking for regular pet sitting. Experience with anxious dogs and availability for several meet and greets prior to sitting are essential.
Astro and I live in a bright sunny spacious first floor duplex a short walk to beautiful Coogee beach. Astro is a 9yo poodle with a horrendous start to life, beaten by his owner his first 4 years resulting in fear aggression. He was then dumped at a pound compounding his fears. Fortunately a rescue group saved him and after a series of unsuccessful fosters I fostered then adopted him 2 years later. He was a very anxious boy and still has PTSD triggers but with medication and lots of love his fears are waning and he’s transforming into a delightful loving doggo - see references for confirmation of this. My pet sitter must have had experience with rescue dogs, understand their anxious foibles and be able to read dogs' body language to avoid triggers (which I detail in a cheat sheet). Ideally you work part time or from home (most of the time), study or are retired. He was never socialised as a puppy but has learned how to 'dog' but remains uncertain in the big wild world so daily walks are sniffaris to the dog park on the corner leaving you time for enjoying the coastal walks at your pace.
