About this house sitting position in Howlong

I am looking for a house and dog sitter from approximately 20th August 2027 to 17th September 2027 (give or take a couple of days... dates will be finalised within the next month or so).

(Non Smoker essential)

The housesit is in a town called Howlong on the banks of the Murray river, about 30kms west of Albury. I have a comfortable 3 bedroom brick house on half an acre situated in a quiet cul de sac with no through traffic. It’s 15 minutes walk (5 minutes drive) to the centre of town where there is a supermarket, chemist, bank, hairdresser, post office, couple of pubs etc. I am also close to the Howlong Golf Resort which has excellent club and dining facilities.

The house has reverse cycle air-conditioning, wood fire, good wifi, Netflix etc., large easy-care garden (and I have a gardener who comes once a week to mow lawns etc.).

My dog is a 9 year old red heeler called Jake. He is a very friendly and loving dog whose main loves in life are food, cuddles and play. BUT he is suffering from PTSD after being severely attacked by other dogs and I am helping him try and overcome this. As a result, he is reactive to other dogs and barks loudly towards them. He is also reactive to other things that make him feel anxious or nervous so he will bark at kids riding bikes on the road at the front of the house or anyone walking past the house, and the postie’s motorbike is something he will bark at and chase up and down the fence line until it’s gone!

I have been working with a behaviourist vet on helping him through all of this and he is becoming more and more calm and less anxious although he will never be the carefree boy he was when he was younger. However he’s a lovely chilled- boy nearly all of the time now.

Because of his PTSD, I don’t take him to a dog park or similar where there are other dogs around. And because of the number of dogs that seem to roam the streets in my town all hours of the day and night, I don’t take him for walks around the area. I just play with him in the garden (which is a fully fenced half acre) and we often just walk around the perimeter a few times together.

He is used to me being around most of the day but can be left alone for several hours without being worried. I'd prefer someone who can be home with him most of the time, so someone retired or who works from home is preferred.

Thanks, Christine
