About this house sitting position in Kalbar

We are retired and have found a wonderful home base in the beautiful Scenic Rim of Queensland.

We have a winter caravan trip planned from early to mid July to mid to late November 2026 and invite house sitters to apply for a stay in our home during a lovely time of year.

The placement would best suit a fit active couple or capable single who would enjoy spending time in our extensive garden and orchard better described as a 'Food Forest". Our garden is our special place and you really need to love and know gardens to enjoy this position. That is the focus of our housesit rather than any animal, of which there are only a few.
While winter is a slower time in the garden the Spring will be busier. Once we select the right house/garden sitters we can discuss how much food you would like us to plant and have growing for your stay.
There will be seasonal fruit in spring, such as mulberries and strawberries that should be harvested and enjoyed and excess frozen. Some require netting to save them from the birds. This is why we need a garden lover. There should not be a great deal to do in the garden outside some weeding and composting in the winter part of your time, although we can have veggies ready for you to eat.
But Spring is a busier time. You would be able to harvest many things and enjoy our fruit and vegetables and look after our poultry which complement the garden system.
Some parts of the harvest can be hard to keep up with at times and composting is sometimes the best outlet for excess.
Some daily watering will be necessary depending on natural rainfall, particularly in our potting area, and our home and surrounds has a large number of potted plants to be cared for, so experience with and love for plants will be essential for this house-sit.

Our only animals are a pony, (whose care will be overseen by a neighbor but will be on site), several egg-laying chickens, a couple of galahs, and two easy-care fish indoors.

We have planted a lot of young trees at the back of our property as part of a regeneration project. Unless it is extremely dry no watering should be required but we check them regularly. It is now a lovely environment down at the creek as we get the environmental weeds under control.

We operate as much as possible on a chemical-free basis with no artificial fertilisers and minimal use of herbicides (Roundup)

Our home is a 2-3 bedroom Queenslander in a quiet rural-residential area with all services, about an hour from Brisbane. We use tank water for home and garden while it lasts and can switch between that and town water as needed
It is a lovely community with great neighbours for support.
We will also be contactable during the time we are away for any queries or questions or just to hear how it is going.
We would also ask that the home be kept as clean and in current order as possible.
We prefer no animals inside the house, but if you travel with a pet we are prepared to discuss this.

We would want to meet our house sitters before departing if possible and also hope you would be of a similar mind to us with minimising power and water consumption etc.

You would be welcome to stay as you prefer either in the house or set up a camper beside the house adjacent to our downstairs bathroom.

The living area of the Queenslander home is accessed by flights of 12 stairs front and back, so it is essential that you would be comfortable climbing stairs many times a day.
The land containing the garden is also sloping so that requires good general fitness to come and go between house and garden

We look forward to receiving interest in our proposal
