About this house sitting position in Laidley South
WELCOME TO OUR HOME "BANNOCKBURN"
House Owner: Karyn & Bruce
Dogs Weimaraner Long Hairs Chester & Kayla (Brother and Sister) & Kristov
Bruce & I are new to house sitting & we are looking for fit gentle, dog loving, non smoking couple or single person who have experience with large breed dogs, to be able to care for our home and 3 well mannered obedient dogs who are exciteabale when meeting people but once they get over the excitement of visitor's they settle quickly on command.
We would really prefer to have someone who is experienced in looking after dogs who require medications and with a dog who has had previous gastrointestinal issues and now stable. Kayla is now on a Novel protein food trial of SPD Prime 100 Kangaroo and Pumpkin and recently adding in the Salmon and Tapioca variety as well. This is being done under Veterinarian specialist care. Kayla is now tolerating her diet exceptionally well. It is imperative she does NOT have any other form of protein in her diet whilst trialling. We hope to have her trial finished by the time we go away
I am struggling with leaving my dogs with someone as they have always been kennelled prior to Kayla being unwell.
I need to be really comfortable and satisfied that our precious dogs will be safe in your care.
We need someone who is able-bodied & to be here most of the day and definitely overnight.
Our dogs are used to us being home most of the time as we are both retired.
Our dogs are home dogs! They sleep & live in our clean & tidy home. We hope you would be able to maintain the cleanliness of our home & yards with watering our gardens whilst we are away. Our heated inground 4.3 x7.2m magnesium salts pool looks after itself on a program, but it does need the water testing and the cleaner put in occasionally.
Our dogs are Weimaraner Long Hairs Chester and his sister Kayla who are both
9⁸/¹² years old & Kristov 7⁴/¹² years old
He is a big gentle boy who needs his brain stimulated. He loves his big teddy bears too. Sometimes, he annoys the others by playing too rough. He responds to get off or leave in a strong, firm voice. They are well trained. They are wonderful beautiful dogs that we are grateful and privileged to own. We have never raised a hand in anger nor will we ever do so. We would appreciate the same consideration and love and kindness given to our dogs from everyone who will be caring for them whilst we are away.
Kayla is fed her SPD Prime 100 food at 0600 and 1800 hrs and the boys are fed their SPD & biscuits at the same time with McDowell's Herbalists Suppotive treatments added to their food for all three dogs.
Our dogs amuse themselves in the garden as they're typical gundogs with strong instincts, we do keep an eye on them and tend to bring them inside when we come inside. They are limited to an enclosed area on dusk as our native wildlife is prolific here, and we are a voluntary conservation Land for Wildlife property on 11 acres but their yard is a ¾ acre fenced area to keep the dogs and wildlife safe. We have a family of squirrel gliders and a possum that live in their boxes outside of our bedroom back rainforest garden.
We do not walk them in summer out of the yard at all. All their exercising is done within the fenced yards.
We never exercise them for at least 1 hr prior to feeding or 1 hour post feeding in case of bloat. Our dogs have all had Gastropexys done to prevent GVD Gastric torsion which our breed is susceptible to owing to them being a deep, large chested breed. They've never had bloat at all managing them as we do. I have owned and loved Weimaraners for 50 years.
Our gardens are easy care, a cottage garden and potted plants and Bromeliads to water, some fruit trees. Please water only when necessary. They are pretty easy to care for, we tend to water in the cool part of the afternoon when the dogs like to be outside in their older years especially in summer, they prefer to be in the air conditioned house!
TRANSPORT
#You will require a car as we live
6km out of town. If you have a caravan or motorhome there is room on our large circular driveway to park & have access to power. We would prefer you stay in the house if possible as this is what the dogs are used to and will also bond with you more quickly
Our Laidley Veterinary clinic, if needed is on the right, just past the 1st petrol station heading into town. Phone 5651259, we've been going her for 25+ years. The UQ Gatton Vets are 15 mins away and used after 2200 hrs (10pm) when our vet is no longer on call.
There is a bus stop 3 km down the road which goes to Laidley Township, Gatton, & Toowoomba. It also goes the other direction to Rosewood Train station and trains leave there to go to Ipswich & Brisbane

IN GENERAL:
We are homebodies & our dogs are very loving and love being with us. They are obedient but can also get up to mischief with each other! They do dig the occasional hole not often though! They use their noses picking up on scents owingvto their breed.
They love people who are gentle & kind & loving towards them. Our dogs are gentle and have never had a hand raised to them, but do need a firm voice for certain commands like back off, and leave. Normal commands are sit, stay, stand, Mat, bed, and down and wait. The important one a happy " YES" for praise with a tickel under the chin or behind the ears. We do use treats for praise, given with a flat palm out to the dogs.
Do not reach over the top of any dog to pat them as this is regarded as threatening to any dog. Ours are ok but, you never know.
Our dogs tend to sleep on their couches or beds during the heat of the day. They are played with late in the afternoon in their very large exercise yards.
Kayla & Chester are sister and brother & are not into games so much but they love to roam & do their own thing.
They are beautiful dogs, they know their routine and commands as they have had obedience training but can be a little naughty too sometimes!
We love them to bits and we hope you will too.
Kristov is our rehomed boy whom we took in at the age of 3 he has had anxiety issues but is on a support Herbal mixture to help him.
He is a big gentle boy who needs his brain stimulated! Sometimes he forgets how big & boisterous he can be with the other Dogs, especially Kayla as she is much smaller. He can also be dominant not aggressively though, he likes her too much and sometimes and needs to be told to leave alone.
He responds to get back off and leave in a strong firm voice.
The boys are neutered and Kayla is spayed.
