Caloundra House & Cat Sit: Lake views, renovated home & three adored indoor rescue cats

Hi there!

We’re Thor and Ruby, and we live (in our slightly biased opinion 😊) in one of the most beautiful parts of the Sunshine Coast — Caloundra.

In September (and first week of October) 2026, we’re heading off on a family trip to South Africa and are looking for a very responsible, house-proud sitter (or couple) to care for our home and our three much-loved rescue cats.

We live in a modern, open-plan home backing onto a peaceful lake, with sunset views from the deck and plenty of wildlife around.

We have recently renovated our kitchen, laundry and flooring, and we’re incredibly proud of how fresh and beautiful everything feels. We take great care of our home and are hoping to find someone who will genuinely appreciate and respect it.

You’ll have:
King size bed with adjustable base, TV and ensuite
Air-conditioning throughout
A renovated kitchen with all the gadgets
Fully equipped laundry
Dining deck with lake views and sunsets
Netflix & Prime
Musical instruments (drum kit, guitar, piano — please enjoy!)
Walkways around Little Mountain lakes
5 mins to shops, 10 mins to beaches
Ruby is a vet, so you’ll always have medical backup advice if needed.

The Real VIPs: Our Cats
We have three rescue cats who are strictly indoors only. They also have access to a large enclosed cat run for sunshine and bug-watching.

They are:
Very loved, used to a calm, predictable environment and they are happily sleep-trained (they sleep in their own “palace bathroom” at night — no midnight wakeups!).

Because they are strictly indoor cats, doors and windows must never be left open. Anyone applying must be very comfortable living with indoor cats and being mindful about entry/exit at all times.

We are looking for genuine cat lovers. People who talk to them and play with them if they feel like it, notice changes, and enjoy their personalities. In our last housesit, we’ve noticed that when sitters were less engaged, the cats became stressed and have lost weight — something we had never experienced before. Their emotional wellbeing matters deeply to us.

What We Provide:

What we’re looking for and our expectations:
We want this to feel like a warm home exchange — but with clear mutual respect.
Single person or couple, Non-smokers (non negotiable sorry)
No parties and preferably no visitors
Several references and police check preferred
Reliability once booked is extremely important to us
Daily WhatsApp updates (we genuinely love them!)
Cleanliness
As we take great care to leave our home spotless for our sitters, we really appreciate returning to a similarly clean and well-cared-for house after a long trip. We therefore expect it to be returned in a similar condition and that general cleanliness is maintained throughout the stay to prevent cockroaches etc.

If possible, we would love to meet beforehand, either in person or via a quick Zoom call, just to make sure it feels like a good fit for everyone. On the day the sit starts, the house will be available from 1:00 pm, and we usually allow about an hour for a handover and to introduce you to the cats. On the final day, we would appreciate the house being available again by 6:00 pm. We generally prefer not to have overlapping days where we are all in the house together.

Use of Household Items:
Please feel warmly welcome to use herbs from the garden and reasonable pantry basics during your stay.
However, in previous sits we’ve had everything from olive oil to washing powder, toilet paper and personal toiletries fully used up or removed. We would like to ask that if you finish something, you replace it — and if you plan to use items extensively for your own purposes, please purchase your own supplies.

Cat Care expectations:
Follow feeding instructions exactly (no extra treats or food changes please)
Monitor their wellbeing
Contact us if anything seems off
Be mindful about doors at all times
