Hello, I'm Heidi and my partner is Damien. We're looking for someone to come stay at our place for an extended Christmas holiday in Canberra.
We have 2 little critters for you to look after. Mookie, our 16 year old black cat. He's mostly happy to occupy himself but in the evenings he'll probably want some pats and engagement. He used to be allowed outside but isn't any more so if he's by the front door, please don't let him outside (he was attacked by a dog and it was a whole ordeal but he's all healed up and happy again.) He'll need to be fed twice a day and make sure he has water and a clean litter tray. He usually sleeps in the guest room so he may want to sleep with you. No human food or drink for Mookie.
Joey, our 4 year old bright white moodle. He is a lover boy and just wants lots of attention, cuddles, and just to be right by your side as much as possible. He is a rescue so we're still trying to get him trained. Thankfully he's only a little guy so when he jumps it doesn't hurt. He knows some basic commands but mostly goes on the "vibe". He is potty trained. He'll pee outside a few times a day but he's really only potty trained to go #2 on walks. So you'll have to give him a 15 min walk everyday. He doesn't pull on the lead. He just loves cuddles and pats and belly rubs. He does lick but does know "stop licking" but he takes a minute to comply. He doesn't bark too much, just if someone comes to the door or if he comes across another dog while on his walk. He needs food twice a day, water, to be let out to pee, walks daily, and lots of love. He sleeps in a crate next to your bed. He can go into his down stairs crate for up to 5 consecutive hours. He's always put in his crate when left alone at home. So we need someone who won't leave him for more than 5 hours. He travels really well in the car for adventures! No human food or drinks for Joey.
Houseplants just need to be watered once a week.
Garden to be watered in the evenings every other day.
Bring in mail and packages
About our house:
3 bedroom town house. In a community complex. You can park in the driveway. We have a courtyard and green space just beyond. We get loads of animals in our courtyard (a bunch of different kinds of native birds, flying fox bats, and possums) We have a housemate thats due to be travelling australia before returning permanately to his home in Vietnam. He is intending to be gone in December but might have some overlap or a few nights here and there of returning between trips. He won't be looking after the pets though. You'll barely notice when hes around. He only lives in his room and uses the kitchen every couple of days. There's a cafe, a shopping mart and an organic & seasonal fruit and veg shop all just across the road. There's a historical pub across the road the other direction (really good food!!). There's even a Chinese restaurant across the road too. We're a stones throw from Canberra's "chinatown" where many Asian cultures are represented with food and shops. Loads of vegan options near us. 12 minute drive to the city. 7 minute drive to our foodie epicentre, Braddon. 20 minute walk to the light rail tram and a bus stop right outside of our complex. There's a bridge next to our complex that takes you over to "temple lane" with several temples and churches that host events and are beautiful to look at.
About Canberra:
Canberra is classically misunderstood. It's a middle-age heaven! Hiking and nature at every turn, national park, nature reserves, nature sanctuaries. We have the botanical garden and the arboretum. We have lakes at every town centre. We have farmers markets close to our house, there's makers markets every weekend in several places. We have national museums, national galleries, and bookshops galore. There's parliment house, the war memorial, and even an owl statue that looks like a male genitalia. Haha There's local swimming holes, a community pool 5 minutes drive from us, and lots and lots of parks to explore. We are a hungry city!!! So many foodie options from French to Greek to Mexican to American to Afghan, to Nepalese, to Indian, to Ethiopian, to Malaysian, to Japanese-Peruvian fusion!! Korean - American fusion and beyond! Plus a million delicious cafes to grab a coffee and breakfast! Whatever you are into, I can point you in the right direction. Canberra is a bit of a hidden gem and you need to know where to look for all the activities! We love niche activities that are poorly advertised. Haha!
