About this house sitting position in MOUNT EGERTON
We have a small hobby farm of 22 acres complete with the usual menagerie of animals: horses, Lowline cows, 5 miniature harlequin sheep and a miniature goat. While the farm animals look after themselves mostly (and we have fabulous "real" famers next door to keep an eye on things) what we are looking for is a confident person or couple whom we can trust with our more domesticated family: April, Ludo and Alfie (Red Standard, black miniature and white toy poodles respectively); Evie and Zippy (Russian Blue cats); Errol (budgie) and the chickens (too many to name!) Evie, Zippy and Errol live in the farm cottage, not the main house, where you would be. The chickens are obviously in their run!
We have no fixed dates as yet and there is a self contained cottage on the farm that we could use if there was an overlap of time: you would have the modern, attractive four bed main house as your accomodation. It will be summer here while we are away, but the house has air conditioning.
We have two 'deal breakers' and one strong preference.
The deal breakers are that we are after a single person or couple who will be happy here on their own. We don't want our home used as a base for a farm holiday for family and friends (once bitten, twice shy).
The other deal breaker is that April is nervous and needs a confident dog person who will know how to win her over. We would need her to meet you before any sit - just to make sure you and she were happy!
The strong preference is for someone who has experience of hobby farms and will do the more routine things like watch for water levels in troughs, and maybe throw our some hay as the grass dries off. We do have an excellent friend who acts as 'back stop' for us; she would be around. The lawn around the houses shouldn't grow much - but if you can use a ride on mower (zero turn and ordinary) that would be an advantage.
We obviously have heaps of room to park your caravan or mobile home if required.
Please be in touch if looking after our home while we take our daughter on her 40th birthday to Christmas in the snow sounds like something you would be interested in doing! Read more...
