House & Pet Sitter Wanted – Christmas

Summary

My partner and I are heading to Japan over the Christmas break and looking for reliable, dog-loving house sitters to take care of our cocker spaniel and home while we’re away. As a quick summary:

- Currently living in a large two-bedroom apartment in Murrumbeena with backyard and secure underground parking; possible move to house in Upwey (flexibility needed)
- Looking for sitters that are dog loving and comfortable caring for an affectionate dog at home, who needs calm on‑lead walks only
- Unfortunately, we can’t consider people with their own pets or small children (Harvey is untested with younger kids and can be bouncy!)

Harvey

Harvey is a 5‑year‑old Cocker Spaniel and very much fits the breed. He’s affectionate, people‑focused and loves being around you — whether that’s playtime, food time, or relaxing on the couch in the evening. He sleeps in his own dog bed next to our bed at night but occasionally tries to sneak into our bed. He has access to a dog door and is easy to manage at home. He’s also fine being left if you work a couple of days a week in the office or head out for a few hours.

Harvey enjoys a local on‑lead walk every 1–2 days. He does need to be walked at quieter times of day, as he isn’t friendly with other dogs. Because of this, we’re looking for a sitter without other pets, and Harvey can’t be taken to dog parks, cafes or busy public places. Walks are simple, calm neighbourhood walks only. At home, he’s generally relaxed and very content as long as he has some company and a familiar routine. He is easily entertained playing with his toys, playing sniffing games, or practicing his tricks with you.

Our current home – Murrumbeena

We currently live in a ground‑floor, two‑bedroom, two‑bathroom apartment with a large, fully fenced backyard. The apartment includes one secure underground car space, with plenty of on‑street parking also available. Shops and public transport are close by.

There’s a small veggie planter and a few plants that would appreciate watering while we’re away.

Flexible location

We’re in the process of selling and moving house and are likely to buy in Upwey or nearby in the foothills of the Dandenongs. The homes we’re looking at buying are established 3–4 bedroom houses on larger blocks, still within easy reach of the train line and local shops. Because of this, we’re ideally looking for someone who is flexible and comfortable house sitting at either location, depending on timing of when we move.
