About this house sitting position in Quorrobolong
We live in a converted farm shed house with 4 bedrooms upstairs and an open plan kitchen/dining and living area downstairs. The house is completely off grid with water tanks with a reverse osmosis filter (you can drink the tap water), solar power and a fire place to keep the place warm in winter (we do have aircon downstairs however you need to be a little solar power savvy when using it in winter). In two years we have not once run out of power and only once out of water so the place is really well set up. The fire place heats up the house nicely in winter.
The house is surrounded by a garden and 100 acres of protected bushland with many bush walks, a small camp ground, a dam, a waterhole and (after lots of rain) a waterfall on the property. The property is gated and locked at all times and the driveway is steep and unpaved so you will need a 4WD to stay here.
The garden needs minimal care as the grass does not grow much in June/July and you only need to mow it if you really feel the need for it. The fruit trees take care of themselves.
My main concern are our rescue animals who are all part of the family and very loved.
DOGS
All dogs sleep inside at night. We have a 5-year old Kelpie girl called Sugar who spends most of her time outside looking after the chickens but comes inside in the evening. We have a 15- year old deaf Sheltie mix called Huddy who spends most of his days sleeping on the couch. And we have two senior little mini foxie/chihuahua crosses called Coco and Lexi who love to hang around people and potter around in the garden. We walk them 1-2 times a day on the property and they are fed mornings and nights.
CATS
We have two strictly indoor cats called Olive and Kiesel who mostly stick to themselves upstairs but love a cuddle too. They are fed and their litter cleaned twice a day.
SHEEP
We have one pet sheep called Queenie who lives on a paddock next to the house. She gets supplementary pellets twice a day in winter but pretty much looks after herself as long as she gets enough food. She comes when called and does love pats once she gets to know you.
GUINEA PIGS
We have 2 guinea pigs who live in their own luxurious outdoor barn and free roam in their areas, digging holes and caves and enjoying life. They need to be fed and checked once a day.
CHICKENS/ DUCKS/ GUINEA FOWL
We have 3 ducks, 5 guinea fowls, 15 chickens and 2 roosters who are all free ranging together all day. They need to be let out of their coop and fed in the morning and then counted and tucked in at night.
It seems obvious to say: do not stay here if you do not absolutely love animals and nature around you!
It’s a very peaceful and private place that has unlimited WiFi and good phone reception if you are with Optus (Vodafone and Telstra seem to work on and off).
There is another house on the property that is permanently rented out so you will always have someone around who knows the animals really well and can help you with anything you need.
