Christmas & New Year on 2.5 Peaceful Acres near Brisbane & Moreton Bay

House sit: 24 November 2026 – 15 January 2027

We’re looking for a mature, responsible couple to look after our home and much-loved animals while we are away over Christmas and New Year.

Our home is on 2.5 peaceful acres in Sheldon, in Brisbane’s beautiful Redlands area. Although we have a lovely semi-rural setting, we’re certainly not isolated and are within easy reach of shops, restaurants, cinemas, the bay and Brisbane itself.

🐱🐔 The animals

Our main priority is our 18-year-old cat, Batcat, who is healthy, independent and on no medication. He needs feeding twice a day, along with some company and affection.

We also have 11 chickens, who need to be let out and locked up each day, fed, and their eggs collected. Their enclosure would only need cleaning once during the stay — and of course you can enjoy all the fresh eggs!

We also have a guinea pig and budgie, but these can be moved elsewhere while we’re away if necessary.

🏡 The house

You will have a bedroom with queen bed, built in wardrobe, lounge area, full galley kitchen, laundry, games room, bathroom with spa bath downstairs, parking under cover, as well as access to our main upstairs living areas (excluding our bedrooms). Also room to park a caravan if you need to.

The pool just needs the usual simple attention such as removing leaves etc.

🌴 Location

Despite the peaceful setting, we’re very conveniently located:

8 minutes – Coles Thornlands, with cafés and restaurants nearby
10 minutes – Capalaba Park & Capalaba Central shopping centres, restaurants and cinema
14 minutes – Victoria Point shopping centres, restaurants and cinema
15–20 minutes – Moreton Bay and the coast
25 minutes – Brisbane CBD
25 minutes – Brisbane Airport
Under 1 hour – Gold Coast
Approx. 1 hr 15 mins – Caloundra and the Sunshine Coast

We’re also only around 7 minutes from Sirromet Winery, and within easy reach of the ferries for North Stradbroke Island, Coochiemudlo Island and the other Moreton Bay islands.

🚗 Getting around

Having your own car would definitely be preferable.

The nearest train station is around 15 minutes away. The #263 bus passes our gate approximately four times a day and goes to the Capalaba transport hub, from where you can connect to many other areas. Uber also services our address without any problem.

❤️ Who we're looking for

Ideally, we would love a mature, reliable couple who will treat our home and animals as their own.

We have lovely long-term neighbours on both sides, so although the property feels peaceful and private, there are people nearby if ever needed, friendly but will give you space & both couples retired and very handy and know the animals.

We cannot have any of your own pets, sorry, but Batcat is old and this is his home, we hope you understand.

Most importantly, we’re looking for people who will give Batcat plenty of company and affection and take good care of our chickens while enjoying our home and this beautiful part of South-East Queensland over Christmas and New Year.
