About this house sitting position in Tawonga
We are looking for a couple who feel comfortable and capable to live a semi rustic, sustainable life on a rural lifestyle block to house/farmsit for us for roughly 2.5 to 3 months over winter.
Some skills with gardening and problem solving would be welcome (and potentially necessary over that time).
Our 14.5 year old kelpie is a less energetic boy than he used to be but is still very keen to play with tennis balls or other toys. (Though he tires more quickly these days and plays by his rules 😅). Tug games with sticks or other toys are also a hit. He virtually insists on his off lead walks each afternoon. He is an inside dog too and loves laying by the wood fireplace on cold nights or under the ceiling fan on hot days. He is a gentle, friendly old boy who loves an ear rub and tummy rub too - again on his terms.
We also have a couple of Plymouth Rock chickens to entertain you and keep happy and healthy. They may even supply you with delicious eggs.
As we are a retired couple, our animal friends are used to having company most days. Chocolate, the kelpie, often makes a great supervisor while we work around the place.
Our 10 acre bush property is within an hour of the Falls Creek ski village and close to the beautiful Alpine National Park. The Kiewa River is a short drive away and there are many mountain bike trails in this beautiful part of Victoria.
Our little piece of paradise is in the foothills of Mt Emu and backs onto state forest. We have developed an extensive fire break around our house, sheds, water tanks and the many fruit trees on the slope that flows down towards the track that is our ‘street’. Our veggie patch is generally quite productive and our other garden beds help make a pretty entrance to the large car park.
One of my favourite pastimes is to watch the myriad of native birds making use of the multi level birdbath outside the kitchen window.
If you enjoy peace and quiet, being surrounded by nature and can manage with wood fired heating and tank water, you’ll enjoy our place.
As we are a 15 minute drive from the nearest shopping centre, you will need your own transport.
We hope you'll consider this opportunity and help us too.
Please note that our internet connection is not always reliable. We have almost daily dropouts, though they usually only last for a few minutes. Telephone reception can also vary. Read more...
