About this house sitting position in Toowoomba
We are looking for a house sitters for one month from mid-August to look after two lazy dogs in a lovely, recently-renovated 120yr-old Queenslander close to the CBD in beautiful Toowoomba. Must be a competent gardener.
The Dogs:
Our big dog is a Maremma X Lab and he’s HUGE. Maremmas are independent thinkers who are very concerned about security, have a big bark and like to do the right thing but in their own time. Which makes him a bit of work to figure out but never naughty or aggressive or too much to handle - especially now that he’s getting old. And that’s my Maremma warning out of the way :). In addition to those traits, he’s also the sweetest, most handsome boy, and the great love of my life (don’t tell my husband). I’m hesitant to subject him to the stress of a kennel now that he’s an old man so we’re exploring house sitters as an option for when we travel. His sister is easy - just a typical laid back Lab who thinks everything is awesome and loves everybody - a real social butterfly.
So these two clowns need looking after for a month but they’re not hard work. The lab loves a long walk but won’t care if it doesn’t happen and is just as happy to sit by your feet all day. The maremma also likes a walk but he has a bit of arthritis so can’t go too far or fast and you’d have to be confident handling a 50kg dog with strong protective instincts. So we don’t mind if you walk them or not, it’s up to you.
My husband and I both work from home so the dogs are used to company therefore our preference is for sitters who are retired or who work from home. Both dogs are healthy and don’t require any medication or specialist skills to look after - just lots of pats and treats.
The House:
I’ve just finished a 3 year renovation on the house so everything is looking lovely. That said, it’s old, drafty and quirky. All rooms have air con and fans and there are two fireplaces ( one wood burning and one gas) because Toowoomba can get very cold in winter. The house has a library, a cook’s kitchen, wrap around verandahs, deck with BBQ, separate self contained studio we use as an office , and a large, lush garden (with a vegetable garden). There would be light gardening to do - just watering really and pulling out the occasional weed if you notice one. We have a guy who does the lawns so you won’t have to. You’re welcome to do as much or as little in the veg garden as you like and help yourself to any produce. If you’re not a keen gardener then just keep it watered and pest spray if necessary. But if you are into gardening, then go for it and I’d love it if you made a start on some spring planting.
Other than that there’s really not much to do other than keeping it clean and dealing with any issues that crop up.
This is my first time entering into an arrangement like this so I’m a bit nervous and also unsure of how it all works. Let me know if there’s any information I should add . Thanks for your interest! Read more...
