About this house sitting position in Widgee
Our house is an old queenslander. It has basic amenities only, bedrooms (4), bathroom on the verandah, kitchen on the verandah, lounge/office/family room with a TV for relaxing. It is well appointed and everything that you need is here (it is just different to the traditional home today).
We live on a beautiful farm (900 Acres) approximately 30km West of Gympie (at Widgee). Gympie is a thriving rural town will all ammenities, shopping and recreation. Gympie is 25 minutes from our farm and a further 60 minute drive to the East will take you to the Great Sandy Straights (Tin Can Bay and Rainbow Beach).
A little closer to home here in Widgee township is a service station and little road house, take away food, corner store supplies and ices/bottle shop. It is a 5 minute drive into Widgee.
We need an active couple, preferably with some rural/farm like experience. We have 22 adult goats and 25 adolescent and baby goats. They are a newly established herd. Our billy goat (Attis) was hand reared and is a gentle giant. No need to fear or worry about him. The 21 girls are all quiet and lovely to be around. Some are pets and very affectionate. The 2025 babies are all weaners now and are thriving beautifully.
We also have three donkeys and one cow (pending the arrival of 30 more). The donkeys are guardians for our cows and goats. They pretty much look after themselves for food (from our paddock pastures) and only require the aforementioned water checks.
We also have a lovely kelpie dog (Ralph) and a kelpie puppy (Flop) who is kind and very responsive. Loves people and will be very happy to be with new people.
The requirement is:
- to care for our goats, feed and water (mostly automated now) and move them around (they need to be in a safe haven/their enclosure at night as we have some feral animals to consider). Water is automated and just needs checking and the pump started to refill if header tank is empty. Feeding is pretty easy, just some pellets and lucerne hay as required.
- to feed and exercise our dog Ralph and puppy Flop (if we were to leave them on the farm). All food will be prepared in advance and it will be easy to provide for them.
- We would like to ask for boundary fence checks and we supply the buggie (Polaris Ranger) for you to do the run. Ralph and Flop can go with you and run for part of the trip.
The farm sit should be a highly enjoyable time without onerous tasks, lots of beautiful bush walking, wildlife spotting, bird watching and general relaxation. Folks with caravans are welcome and you are encouraged to use our bathroom, kitchen, power, water facilities.....like a free camp.
All questions and applicants will be promptly answered. Read more...
