Super Sweet Rottweiler Needing Live-In Carer for Close to 2 Weeks

Hi there,

We are looking for a caring, reliable person or couple to stay in our comfortable home from Sunday June 21 until Saturday 4th July to look after our beautiful big male Rottweiler named Chief.

This role would ideally suit someone who works from home, a retired or semi-retired couple, or possibly a uni student studying mostly from home, as our boy is happiest when he has company for most of the day.

He doesn’t require heavy exercise — we will have a professional walker come every third or fourth day — but a short, daily gentle walk/ sniff at his slow pace around the immediate block after an early dinner and before dark would be wonderful and will greatly assist in tiring him out a bit for a peaceful night.

That said, if you are experienced and completely comfortable handling larger breeds, and would genuinely enjoy taking him on longer 30–40 minute walks, you’re very welcome to do so, provided you can follow the walking protocol we use with him. We have put a lot of training into desensitising him to certain triggers we occasionally encounter on walks, including electric scooters (rare) , noisy work utes with rattly trailers, and a few other things. He absolutely loves pats from anyone willing to give him along the way and is such a sweet boy. We have very specific instructions in his manual that help keep him calm, focused, and comfortable while out and about.

He is a very sweet, eager-to-please, occasionally playful dog with a big and beautiful heart. He is incredibly loving and loyal and enjoys pats, a little play if he’s feeling up to it, a gentle groom while sitting beside you, he loves you talking to him and reassuring him that he is a good boy and just simply being near his people.

His only downside is that he has a bit of a “plumbing issue” and drools terribly whenever food is around! He also gets very excited for the first minute or so when meeting people. But there are ways of best handling all that.

Ideally, we’re looking for someone confident and experienced with larger breeds, who understands their strength and presence and can provide calm, consistent gentle care. Keeping him settled and relaxed is important to us, as he has had two cruciate ligament surgeries over the last four years and we don’t want him overexerting himself or running around too much.

Our boy is very much an indoor dog who prefers to sleep close to his pack. He has full access to the house, including our bedroom where he has his own bed, and he also must have access to our son’s bedroom throughout the day and night.

You are welcome to stay in our bedroom where he sleeps at night or There is a lovely guest bedroom with a separate ensuite for your comfort and, if you are comfortable allowing him into your room, that’s wonderful — although he most likely won’t bother you at all. It’s simply reassuring for him if doors are left open at night so he knows his people are nearby and he doesn’t feel lonely or isolated.

Our home is close to shops and cafés and has all the creature comforts, including Stan, Netflix, and Prime, so you can relax and feel at home during your stay.

There is a well-paid daily rate on offer, and your favourite staple foods will be provided to help start you off, along with a little thank-you gift from Chief for caring for him.

We also have amazing neighbours and a wonderful community around us. A fully detailed manual covering his routine, care, walking protocol, and all his little quirks will be available onsite to help make your stay as smooth and comfortable as possible for both you and our beautiful boy.

We are also available 24/7 should you ever need assistance or have questions relating to the house or Chief. Occasional photos and updates would be greatly appreciated too.
