About this house sitting position in Toowoomba
2 level 5 bedroom, 3 bath home on 1acre about 10 minutes drive from Toowoomba city. It’s a work in progress so there are some incomplete bits. The downstairs area is double-glazed which keeps things pretty warm, especially when the gas fire is going.
We are looking for a housesitter who will enjoy living in and taking care of our home. The main tasks are just being here, and doing a few regular tasks that are listed below. The gardens will be largely dormant, so won’t require much other than maybe a late autumn mow, but you are welcome to potter if you wish.
We have lots of wildlife, which can include snakes and spiders. We also don’t have any fly/security screens on windows or doors which means we sometimes get visitors inside, especially during the warmer months. This would be unlikely in the cooler months.
We have found from other visitors/sitters that some experience of country living and practical skills is useful.
Possibly awkward things:
There is one double bed in the house. There are also 2 queen and 3 single mattresses. You are welcome to move the bed to a room of your choosing.
There is one TV, wall mounted in our bedroom which has a queen mattress on floor.
Downstairs is concrete floors: hardy and durable, but cold
No dishwasher
No insect/security screens on windows or doors, so insects and sometimes critters can come inside.
Mobile phone reception is patchy and irregular. Recommend you have wifi calling on your mobile phones.
We have a home sewage treatment plant. Like a septic system, it means certain things cannot go down the drains/toilets.
Double glazed doors downstairs are heavy to slide (my mother cannot open them)
Expenses:
We’d appreciate you covering the monthly electricity bills that arrive when you are here.
We’ll make sure there are 2 full 45kg gas bottles for the stove and gas-fired heater and a smaller one for the BBQ and ask that they be filled at the end of your stay.
We’ll cover everything else.
Internet/Phone:
We’ll cover the unlimited monthly internet, and you can use our Netflix/Fetch subscriptions.
There is no landline.
Regular tasks:
Mail - collect, open and send pics to us.
Mowing - takes about an hour using push and ride-ons. Probably a couple of times in autumn.
Monitoring pool water level: topping up as required. Empty leaf baskets weekly.
Move wastewater sprinklers and check sprinkler heads are not clogged each week.
Clear driveway and decks of leaves using blower each week.
Top up pond.
Going away/visitors:
We wouldn’t object to you heading off for a few days/week at a time to explore or attend to other commitments.
You are welcome to have visitors, within the usual bounds of courtesy.
Parking:
There’s a double carport. We may leave one car here. There’s plenty of off street space for parking cars, vans, etc.
Our kids:
Charlotte and Tom are both at University in Brisbane. They may pop in from time to time to get something, and will be available to help you in our absence.
Neighbours:
We are fortunate to have lovely neighbours. They are all elderly, have lived here forever, and would likely welcome you extending the hand of friendship.
We hope the above has given you enough information to make an informed decision. We appreciate that 6 months is a long time, and long commitment, and want to give it a solid start. We’ve included a pic of us so you can see the people behind the house.
