We are Justine and John, a relaxed and friendly British couple who have been permanently house and pet sitting since July 2021. Before we started this adventure together Justine house and pet sat in New Zealand and Australia from late 2014, so has been pet sitting for nearly 10 years! Our daughter, Indy, was born in November 2022 and we decided to continue pet sitting in the UK as a family of three. We returned to Australia in November 2023 after booking a few months of house sits and are very much looking forward to continuing our house-sitting journey down under!

Both of us work from home which gives us great flexibility when it comes to moving around and also means that we are home with your pets as much as possible to make sure they get lots of love and attention. John is a self-employed web developer and Justine is taking time off from her role as a virtual assistant / PA to take care of Indy.

We both enjoy the outdoors, especially hiking, camping, horse riding and cycling as well as kayaking and paddle boarding in the summer. We absolutely love travelling and meeting new people but due to our travelling nature we don't have any pets of our own, so having the opportunity to look after other people's pets and homes whilst they relax on holiday is perfect! Now that Indy has joined us, we are really excited to be carrying on with our house-sitting adventures and raising her around animals as we both were.

Between us we have looked after over 90 homes and a vast assortment of animals (detailed list below). Mainly cats and dogs but also birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, fish, emus, terrapins and horses as well as pregnant pets, puppies, kittens and a few elderly and disabled pets so we really do have experience with most pets that we tend to come across these days.

We have experience administering medication as well as taking pets to vets for check-ups and have our own vehicle, we have also been insured on home owners’ cars in the past as some prefer us to use theirs while they are away to keep it in good working order (particularly on longer sits) and for transporting larger dogs. We do not mind either way, whatever you are more comfortable with is absolutely fine with us. We both have full, clean driving licenses and are considerate, safe drivers.

We also have experience using ride on mowers, tractors, strimmers, etc…as well as maintaining swimming pools (salt & chlorine), tennis courts and gardens up to six acres in size.

We are very respectful and considerate and strive to ensure that each home we stay in is secure, clean and well maintained. We enjoy gardening and being outdoors and take great pride in making sure that everything in the house that we stay in is left in perfect condition.

Neither of us smoke.

We understand the importance of finding someone perfect to look after your pets and we want you to feel 100% confident in our abilities, due to this we are happy to stay for a night before you leave so that we can observe your routines (feeding schedules, bedtime routine, walking routes, etc...) and cause minimal disruption to your pets. This also gives your pets a chance to see us with you and know that we are trusted and safe which really helps them adjust to us a lot quicker than if we just arrived after you had already left. If you would rather we didn’t arrive a day before, or if you don’t have space for us, we have recently been meeting home owners via video chat and then arriving an hour or two before their departure for a handover. This still gives your pets time to become familiar with us with the comfort of having you there and means that we can run through your sit instructions together and in person. We are happy with any and all options and will be led by you.

We received very regular photos and communication whilst we were away which was so comforting. Indy (toddler) was such a delight and it felt so good having a young family in our home. Our dogs, Winter and Honey, are elderly and absolutely loved having them, they seemed depressed the next 24 hrs or so after we got home, I think they missed them! They were so well looked after. “We have been away twice this year and had John and Justine stay both times to look after our rescue Lurcher, Pixie. We hope they can always come back as Pixie clearly loves them! Anyone who has had or looked after a Lurcher may know how much patience is needed with this breed at times and this was never an issue for John and Justine. They took Pixie for her regular two walks a day, she was fed, loved and very well cared for. Usually when we go away we book her into kennels nearby but we could tell that she had the best time with this charming couple – she will never want to go to kennels again! Our house was very tidy and well cared for, we had absolutely no issues with John and Justine and hope that they can return in April 2022 for another sit.”

“We booked a last-minute trip to Ibiza when the Covid restrictions eased and needed to find house and pet sitters at very short notice. Luckily, we came across the profile of this amazing couple and after meeting via Zoom we snapped them up to look after our 2 bedroom city centre home and 2 lovely cats. Unfortunately, the day before Justine and John arrived one of our cats got scratched in his eye and needed pills twice a day, eye drops three times a day and a visit to the vets during our trip. We almost cancelled as we thought that this was far too much to ask but Justine and John insisted that none of this was a problem and sure enough, everything went exceptionally well. We got lots of photos and videos of our boys which kept us relaxed while we were away and after the vet trip we had a full update about Spike’s eye which had fully recovered due to their diligent care. Not only did we come home to two very happy cats (who sulked when we got back as they clearly missed their new friends!) but our property was immaculate. We can highly recommend this couple for any housesits; nothing is too much for them.”

“I was recommended this couple by a friend in Aberdeen who had Justine sit for her cat many years ago. I used to own cats but now only have a large fish tank which I struggle to get adequate care for when I am away. As Justine has a lot of experience with fish I felt reassured that she would be confident and able to carry out the required cleaning and feeding as needed. When I was away the pump for the tank broke and Justine and John had no issue at all taking it to be checked out and ultimately purchasing a new pump in my absence. They were great at staying in touch and keeping me in the loop with what was happening and fortunately I lost no fish when I was away, despite the pump issue. It is obvious that this is a mature, competent couple who are able to cope with unexpected problems in a sensible and sensitive manner. I would have them back to house sit in a heartbeat.”

“We went on family vacation and needed to have people to look after our small farm and three dogs. Our chihuahua definitely really loved Justina and our big, big mastiff bonded quickly with John. "I would very much like to thank Justine for the love and attention that she gave our pets during our recent holiday to the USA. She came very highly recommended, and any hesitation I may have had prior to them meeting Smokie, our rabbit and our three cats were soon dispelled when she turned up and instantly clicked with all four animals from the off! For the record, I have never seen Smokie enjoy being stroked so much and as one of our cats is totally blind, he requires a lot of attention and patience. Again, Justine came up trumps and before we knew it, she had befriended the animals as if they were her own and we knew that we could depart and enjoy our holiday without having any reservations. When we finally got back, the animals had all been fed and watered (and Smokie had been cleaned out particularly well) and it appeared as if they were treated better than if we hadn't gone anywhere!
