About this house sitting position in Ballan
Our home is on a 4 acre property which backs onto the Werribee River and has open views down the river valley to the Wombat State forest. It has a rural feel, although it sits on the edge of the Ballan township, and only a 5 minute walk into town or 12 minutes to the station.
A 20 minute drive will take you to many great areas to explore, including Ballarat, Daylesford, Trentham and Blackwood. The Goldfield areas of Creswick, Clunes & Castlemaine are just a bit further on. There are many great walks in the area, as well as wineries and scenic drives. It is an area steeped in history with many beautiful buildings and landscapes.
The 'big smoke' is only an hour away. The Ballarat train service stops in Ballan. The train takes under an hour into Southern Cross Station in Melbourne. Trains run hourly. The train is 20 minutes into Ballarat.
The house was built in the 1860's, but has had more recent extensions, including a large verandah, modern living area, bedroom and kitchen. We have central heating and a combustion fire.
Our fur family consists of 4 alpacas, chickens and a dog. The alpacas tend to look after themselves, although they do like the occasional apple or carrot treat.
The chicken's will need to be let out in the morning and locked in before dark each day. (important as there are foxes around). Their coop will need a quick clean out each day and the self feeder food and water containers will need to be checked and topped up when required. That's about it, and you will be rewarded with delicious eggs!
Our lovely boy Buddy just loves company. He's not too high maintenance, despite being a border collie X kelpie. A quick run down the river on our property is all he needs morning and afternoon, along with a bit of playtime with his toys. An hour or so is usually all it takes. It's more about the routine with him, and he will let you know if you don't get it right! He usually likes to follow you around the property, and loves helping with any jobs, ie: putting the chickens in or feeding the alpacas!
I have a large garden and depending on the time of year and forecast rain, it may need watering. I also have houseplants which may need some attention. Read more...
