About this house sitting position in HAHNDORF

We are looking for a house sitter for our home in Hahndorf while we are away.

We have two older cats, Indiana and Jones, who are fairly independent and have access through a cat door. Jones mostly keeps to himself and can usually be found sitting outside on a chair or inside on whichever uncomfortable object he has decided is the best place to sleep. Indie is a bit of a fatty, loves attention and will happily sit with you for as long as you allow. He will also sleep on the bed if invited, but can be shut out if that is not your preference.

Both cats are very good at letting you know when it is time to be fed. If possible, they just need to be inside at night, which is usually achieved by closing the back door once they have come in.

Our home is a clean and tidy, non-smoking four-bedroom house just behind Hahndorf’s main street, up from the German Arms and within easy walking distance of shops, cafés and restaurants. It is comfortable rather than super fancy.

There is a spare room with a double bed and electric blanket, another spare room with a single bed, and we could also make up an additional single bed in a teenager’s bedroom if needed. The main kitchen, dining and family area has reverse-cycle heating and cooling, and there is also a small heater in the double bedroom.

There should be one garage space available behind a roller door, as well as additional off-street parking. The side gate can also be opened to allow a trailer, car or ute to be backed down beside the house. The angle is a little awkward, so we cannot guarantee that a caravan would fit, although a caravan could be parked on the street at the front if needed.

There are quite a few indoor plants. Most should be fine while we are away, although a few may need a small amount of water. The garden should not require any maintenance.

The garden includes vegetable beds (you might get some peas, beetroot or spring onions this time of the year), a herb garden out from the kitchen, a fernery with a small pond, some winter flowers and lots of frogs. Wherever we could find space there's plants. The old swimming pool has been converted into a large pond and is fenced off. There is also a large undercover outdoor area, although Hahndorf can still be quite cold at this time of year.

There is a contained pottery area in the house that may look a little busy, but it will be tidied before we leave.

We also have friends from CFS living in nearby streets who can be contacted if any help is needed and we cannot be reached.

A quiet, house-trained small dog may be considered, as the yard can be closed off. The cats generally disappear when they have canine company, but should be fine provided they are not chased. Read more...
