About this house sitting position in Karana Downs

We require a kind, dog-loving, responsible person or couple to look after our 2 much loved border collies (speyed females), 5 chickens and our house while we are away from our home.

Our dogs are very affectionate girls and love lots of pats and conversations and love chasing each other around the yard. We would like our sitter to be able to take our girls for daily walks. Our doggies live inside and outside the house when we are at home and sleep in the house. Our sitter/s would need to be someone who is willing to be home at reasonable times at night as the 'furry girls' can bark and dig in the garden when they get lonely and bored. Please note that our 2 dogs have never been left alone overnight and we would ask that the sitter not be away overnight in case they get distressed, although coming in late or leaving early is not a problem.

Looking after our chickens requires feeding and being loosely supervised in the latter part of the afternoon when we let them out of their yard into our house yard.

Our home is an easy-care, low-set, 4-bedroom + study, brick home situated on approx. 7000sqm; (1 3/4; acres), most of which is natural bush. Our property is northern facing and has lovely views of bushland and hills peeking through the trees. The view is easily seen from the family room and the verandah. Our house has a large kitchen, formal lounge, dining and family room. It is partly screened, with an air conditioner in the main and guest bedrooms and also, in the family room. Fans and heaters are available for use where needed. We are non-smokers and request that our sitter/s also do not smoke in the house.

Our home is located in Karana Downs, which is 15 km from the centre of Ipswich and 30km from the centre of Brisbane CBD. We are 7 mins from the Warrego Highway, the main highway linking east towards Brisbane and further west towards Toowoomba. Brisbane CBD is only 40 - 50 mins by train, with the nearest station being approximately a 13 minute drive east on the Warrego Highway.

There is a shopping centre 5km away in Karalee Village Shopping Centre, with two supermarkets (Woollies and Coles), a doctor, dentist, liquor store, newsagent etc. Kenmore Village, which is 15 minutes to the east, has more shops and restaurants. Indooroopilly and Mt Ommaney shopping malls are within 30 mins drive. There is also a small Foodstore, pizza place, hairdresser and a bakery 2 minutes' walk from our house here in Karana Downs. The pizzas are great! There is also a golf course 2km down the road.

However, there is very limited public transport that goes from Karana Downs to Ipswich and also towards the drop-off place (10 mins) where you can catch the bus into Brisbane city and the suburbs. Also, we will not be providing a vehicle so it would be best for our sitter/s to have their own transport.
