About this house sitting position in Preston

Our home was built for the 1956 Olympics. It’s a reasonably small but cosy and homely space with two bedrooms, a study, and separate kitchen, lounge, and laundry. We have excellent hydronic heating and instantaneous hot water, along with a lovely deep green bathtub for relaxing.
The main bedroom features a queen bed, the second bedroom has a double, and the study includes a desk if needed.
The garden is quite large, with vegetable beds and a peaceful sitting area to enjoy. We have four chooks—two of whom lay daily, so you’ll have fresh eggs—and two affectionate 9-year-old cats who love a pat and a cuddle. There’s also a beehive in the backyard, but as it will be winter, there won’t be much activity; the bees keep a low profile in the colder months.
Winter also means minimal garden upkeep—just watering a few pots outside and the indoor plants.
We have lovely, helpful neighbours who we’ll introduce you to—some even drop off food for the chooks! The house is within walking distance of many cafes and the Preston Market. Public transport options include a tram (less than a 10-minute walk), buses at the end of the street, and a train station 1.6 km away.
Things to look after while we’re away:
Chooks: Feed in the morning. If you're home in the afternoon, they’d love a little treat 🙂
Cats: Feed in the morning and evening. Open the cat flap in the morning and close it in the evening—they’re free to come and go during the day but should be kept in after sunset.
Bins: Put them out Tuesday evening for Wednesday morning collection.
Plants: Water the pots around the back of the house as needed, and water the houseplants twice during your stay. Read more...
