More information about this house sitter

We are fully booked for this year's dates. We will be chasing the sun again from December 2017 to May 2018. Our destination isn't planned yet, but if you think we're the sitters for you - and in that case, it's probably a wise decision - then please feel free to contact us. We're always ready to listen to an offer we just can't refuse!

We are a relatively fit and healthy, non-smoking couple. Note that we must turn down house sits where smoking is allowed, so please skip over us if that's the case. Other than that, we're fairly easygoing and adaptable.

SECURITY CHECKS

As well as police checks, our security record checks include clearances from Nexus (in Canada) and the Trusted Traveller Program (USA), which should give a homeowner peace of mind.

COMMUNICATION

We're happy to Skype with you to answer questions about anything we haven't thought to cover here. We want to make this experience enjoyable for everyone. When we're on a house sit, we'll provide you with whatever updates give you peace of mind. We can easily text/email/photos/phone as often as you'd like, or respect your 'device-free' vacation plans!

PET CARE

Our house sitting has included caring for dogs and cats. We made our video when we did a two-week housesit in December, 2014. We know we can't replace you, but we'll do our best to follow your instructions and give your pet our tender loving care. We have cared for animals needing medication, as well as one who had digestive issues that needed monitoring. We will follow your instructions for feeding and exercise routines. Also, we're always ready and willing to provide grooming and regular hugs, as well as an occasional treat, if allowed. We do admit to having some dogs sleep on the bed with us, if that's normal in their household. We're quite adaptable :)

We have cared for and enjoyed a variety of pets over the years, including dogs, fish, indoor birds, chickens, ferrets, and iguanas. We did have our own dog, but at the time we were both working full-time and travelling regularly. It was a lonely life for our dog, and so when our dog sitter pleaded to keep her, we agreed, and she then had other animals in the home to keep her company. Now our pet visitors are most often our three grand-dogs (seen in one of the photos), who love to come to our "doggy spa", as our kids call us. We look forward to giving the same love and attention to any homeowner's pets or animals.

HOME SECURITY & MAINTENANCE

We have been homeowners for many years, including having tackled many renovation jobs and done the majority of our home maintenance, repairs, and renovations ourselves.

We own condominium rental properties. Our tenants usually become our friends and stay with us for many years. We have an excellent support network in place for both our home and the rental properties for when we travel, so we understand the need to have responsible caring people in control. We will give the same excellent practical care and attention to your property; rest assured that your property will be well cared for by us!

We have both gardened for many years, caring for lawns, flowering plants, and vegetables. We enjoy puttering in the garden and take pride in all we do. One of Greg's hobbies has been the design and build of our pond and the maintenance of its plant and fish life. He is experienced with the routine care of pools and ponds, including inspection, maintenance, and repair when required. He has also had experience with aquaponics systems.

We have housesitters when we travel, so we can relate to a homeowner's concerns. Francine admits to being very particular about keeping a home neat and tidy, but that should make any homeowner happy!

WE'RE VOLUNTEERS AT HEART

We enjoy helping others. We took early retirement, partly because we love to travel, especially when it allows us to escape to sunny, warm climates. In the past, most of our travels have involved volunteering in poor countries, helping those in need. We know that in volunteering, the rewards are often immeasurable, and we find that also the case with house sitting.

Two of our photos were taken in 2014, when we volunteered at The Monkey Farm in Costa Rica. In the one photo, notice how well Greg improvised when his usual tools weren't available ... he's very resourceful.

When travelling, our goal is primarily to meet local people and experience their culture. The less we look like tourists, the more we like it! We enjoy a simple lifestyle and are content with our own company, but also enjoy meeting others.

AND ON A MORE PERSONAL NOTE ...

Greg:
I was a tool and die maker for over 40 years, and have a wealth of experience in all areas of home maintenance and repairs. The precision required in my career is reflected in the attention to detail in any work I take on. I'm pretty particular about how I look after things; my friend's tease me about how organized my workshop and garage are, and I like to keep our vehicles clean too. Hey, I have a sense of pride in what I do.

Francine:
My strength is in the administrative side of things as I am well-organized and detail-oriented. I admit to being somewhat of a computer/devices geek, so you can rest assured that if you want to be kept updated with emails, texts, or photos, I'll be happy to do that. Yep, and I've already admitted I'm a bit of a neat-freak when it comes to our living space.

I am also a certified teacher of English as a Second Language, which I now do on a voluntary basis, both online and in person. Most of my paid teaching was done at a Canadian university, and I also taught in Mexico. If the opportunity arises, I'll be happy to help others, where needed.
