About this house sitting position in Enmore
Our home is a 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom, single story house in Enmore about 7km from the Opera House. We are looking for a house sitter to care for 2 cats and 2 chickens and watering front and back garden. Prefer couple if possible, very friendly neighbourhood in the inner west of Sydney with shopping, entertainment and lots of public transport options within 10 mins walk.
Chickens need to be let out into the yard in the morning and put back in their pen in the evening; fed daily; water and feeder (pellets) in their run topped up as needed; daily check of their 'bedroom' for eggs and remove any poo and put on garden; and straw replaced in the ‘bedroom’ every week or 2.
The 2 cats have dry biscuits to graze on and water in the kitchen which are refilled as needed, and some wet food each evening at around 6pm. They can go out in the day if they want, but must be in by 6pm and overnight. We have a tray with kitty litter in the house that needs to have the poo removed daily and to be changed at least weekly.
1. Frannie: an elderly tortoiseshell lady (18) is a bit arthritic and has 0.3ml Meloxicam in the evening by a syringe that she tolerates well; she is very sweet and happy doing her own thing.
2. Pig/Piglet: a silver/grey Burmese (8) who loves attention and sitting on people and can be quite vocal if she thinks its food time. She may want to sleep on the bed, but its easy to close the hall door so she stays down the back of the house. She wears a harness with a name tag and bell (instead of a collar) when she goes out and also thinks its a great joke to run out if you have the back door open in the evening after her harness has come off.
Martin loves his garden and works hard to keep it healthy and productive. We have lemon, lime and mandarin trees out the back and more plants out the front of the house, including on the verge where we also have a garden that we use for herbs and lettuces. The front and back gardens need regular watering during the summer.
The house has solar panels and a battery as well as reverse cycle air conditioning, allowing us to keep the house comfortable in the summer heat. The household Wi-Fi is unlimited and we have a Smart TV.
Our road is a dead end and our house under 300m from Enmore Rd where a good IGA, an organic shop, and a number of cafes, restaurants and pubs can be found and of course, the well known Enmore Theatre. Cow and Moon artisan gelataria is opposite the top of our road and is well known for their gelato but they also do great coffee.
Four bus routes to the city join and run down Enmore Rd so you never have a long wait, and also a bus to Bondi Junction. Newtown Station, on King St, is a short walk, about 800m, and trains are regular with easy connections at Redfern and Central only 2 to 3 stops away. There are also buses on King St near the station to Glebe, the city and in the other direction to Coogee beach and Kogarah. The new metro trains go from Sydenham station, which is an easy 1.8km walk past Marrickville Metro shopping centre that is about 800m away and has a Woolworths, Aldi, Coles, Panettas and Kmart as well as a range of other shops. The Metro is our nearest shopping centre and though it is not an enormous shopping centre, it has everything you could want.
We do not have off-street parking, however the street is fairly reliable for parking. One side of the road has timed parking from 6pm to 10pm daily so we usually try to park on the other side and there are usually spots in streets a few minutes walk away. Around the Christmas and New Year time, and school holidays, lots of people are away and the parking is usually easier.
Note that our neighbours have bees and in summer the bees are often around in the garden. That said, their honey is delicious! Read more...
