About this house sitting position in Cooktown
We live in a comfortable home on a bush block off grid 34 km south of Cooktown. The last 16 km are dirt so you need a vehicle with good ground clearance. We are at the base of mount amos against national park and with ocean views. The house has 240 volt with supply coming from a water turbine and solar with a petrol generator for backup. Lovely clear water comes down a pipeline from a spring fed creek. We have satellite internet and a landline or the mobile will work through the internet. We have a small home garden and orchard, a few chooks and Arnold the dog who is fine to leave home if you do a day outing, and I also have a friend who is happy to take him for longer breaks. The main chook house is snake proof and so the hens can also be left for a few days. If you think you would enjoy an out of the way bush experience in a beautiful location this could be for you. You do need to be a bush walker type to manage the pipeline which runs for 3 km through forest. It may never require a walk but things can happen and it will be the wet season. You'll also need a 4wd as there's 16km of dirt between home and the highway. The creeks come up with heavy rain but as they come off the hills they also go down quickly when the rain eases back. If you're a loner type it would be fine but it could get a bit lonely if you like company so then it would be better as a couple. There is a small community of neighbours all on their bush blocks.
