About this house sitting position in Nimmitabel, Snowy Mountains
Enthusiastic and capable minders wanted to look after our property in the Snowy Mountains. The property is situated 12kms from the small town of Nimmitabel and 45km from the town of Cooma. It is comprised of fifty hectares (250 Acres) of mixed bush and pasture with dams and fences. Your home is a very comfortable 2 room cabin with all you need, including power and water. Primary heating is by a wood burning stove (although there is an unflued gas heater if needed), so you would need to be comfortable cutting your own wood.
We are looking for someone who can perform basic maintenance of the property and buildings. This would include pumping water, fixing fences as required, monitoring rain water, and ensuring the garden is watered and maintained. It is anticipated that this would amount to 8-10 hours light work a week.
The house and attached cottage will be used intermittently by our family.
Additional benefits include use of the extensive vegetable garden and chicken shed, as well as a large workshop. There is also potential to have horses or a few cattle (by agreement). There is a spacious dog run.
The property neighbours extensive bushland and state forest. The far south coast is an easy hour drive away. The snowfields are an hour and twenty minutes away. The main service town is Cooma, about 45kms away. Basic services are available in Nimmitabel including a post office/ general store, café, and bakery
The property would suit a retired or semiretired couple (or energetic single) with experience with rural properties and living. Alternatively it would suit someone who wants to try out the rural/hobby farm lifestyle and to learn some of the required skills (fencing, pumps, irrigation, and general maintenance). Dogs are welcome, but no cats. Other animals by discussion.
This is a longer term proposition. We are hoping to find someone for a trial period of 6 months, with potential extensions by mutual agreement.
There will be a trailer, but no vehicle on the property, so you will need to have your own (appropriate) transport.
