About this house sitting position in Prospect

Hi there - is anyone wanting to stop with my dog overnight in Launceston? Might suit a traveller? if so, please read on ... (sorry it is lengthy, I normally advertise for longer sits)

My dog Toohey has isolation anxiety & doesn't do well when left alone for longer than a couple of hours (there are particular actions and words to say that make departures easier on him that I'll teach you). A sitter who appreciates the importance of not extending him beyond his threshold for solo-time, will be a great fit. If you work away from the home full-time, or want to spend whole days exploring the state, this will not be a good fit. He is not a dog who can just be left all day (or all night). He is accustomed to 3 hrs max. (I work from home)

Toohey travels well in the car in his harness, and must be strapped in via a seatbelt through it. He is very vocal if left alone in a vehicle and will wiggle out of his harness if left alone, he has also learnt to unbuckle the seatbelt sometimes. So please do not leave him in any car alone.

He has a very high prey drive, & is dog-reactive. On walks, you'll do best to avoid dogs on either side of the road - keeping them out of his line of sight where possible, turning back and just walking the other way if you see one coming. He is perfectly safe around children, but may knock little ones down with his enthusiasm to greet and lick. He does love to play but barking is part of the play, which can scare little ones.

This ideally suits someone who is happy to stay-in just relaxing, cooking, studying, watching netflix etc. and is happy to feed him, walk him, is tolerant of him wanting to cuddle up on the couch (not required though), He is not to sleep on human beds - he has one of his own in a room of his own and I'll ask that you keep him in his usual routine of sleeping in his usual place.

My short term house sits seems to suit those currently travelling around Tasmania, maybe camping, who just want a few nights respite in a real bed with a nice bathroom to recharge, do their washing, cook up in a proper kitchen for a change, between adventures. A small amount of sight seeing is possible while sitting Toohey - just in small chunks of a couple hrs at a time. The house is a very short drive away from Cataract Gorge and Duck Reach power station, both great places for a walk, and Kate Reed recreation area is right behind the Silverdome nearby, for walking and mountain bike rides. I often take Toohey on walks around the Silverdome / Kate Reed tracks.

I'm in a busy area on a main road, but its fairly quiet inside the house. There are shops and a good supermarket within 2 minutes of the house, and a medium sized back yard with an undercover area for if you smoke. There is also a large garage if you wish to park your car or leave bikes in it.

You will have your own room (Queen bed), NBN (fibre to the home), heat pump is always on in Winter and gas heating is available when that is not enough. There is a large tv with a chromecast in the lounge. The house stays very cool in summer, but there is air con if needed. There is also a TV & chromecast in your bedroom but no regular tv reception in there. The bathroom has a walk-in shower, there are no stairs anywhere, but there is a ramp out to the back yard. There is a second toilet out near the laundry.

You are free to use my laundry supplies, tumble drier etc. and of course spices/oils in the kitchen, condiments, & tea (LOTS OF - it really helps me if you can drink some of my tea collection as I have way too much).

Most experienced dog owners find Toohey is actually very easy to manage, and walks very well when mindful about his issues. He makes an excellent couch cuddle buddy. He lives for pats and cuddles (but I ask that you don't pat him or make a fuss right before leaving him - make it 'no big deal').

If this suits anyone please get in touch!

Location: Prospect, Launceston

Note: although there might be space for a caravan, I would need to double check the width first. Definitely room for standard hiace type vans, securely behind a tall gate.

Reviews for Bronwyn

5 stars stars
“Toohey is a lovely dog, very well trained, and sociable with humans..
Although he has a dog reactivity condition, we were able to carefully avoid other dogs whilst also enjoying walks and play.
Bronwyn had prepared everything needed whilst she was away, and had made a clear, informative, info sheet to refer to.
Very happy to care for Toohey again.
