We are a friendly, non-smoking couple who love to travel and enjoy spending most of our evenings at home, preferably cuddled up with a furry friend. I have been working for a Federal Government department for over 10 years and Matt worked for Defence for a number of years and has been working as a Registered Nurse for the last 8 years. We have both grown up with dogs and cats as part of our families. We have had over 10 housesits through other sites, all with 5 star reviews.
Why we want to house-sit:
We love animals, exploring different areas of Melbourne and it's fun! The home I had been living in for 12 years sold and we thought this was a great opportunity to try living in other suburbs and getting to know new communities. We love looking after animals but our current circumstances mean it is not practical to have any of our own. By house sitting we get to enjoy animals and meet new people.
We also understand that, for many pets, kennels and catteries can be quite stressful places, so it's important they are able to stay in place familiar to them - their home. We love the idea of being able to help people out so that they can have their holiday and not worry about the pets back home.
Both Matt and I have grown up with pets. When I was younger I had a Siamese cat and a Lab/Dingo cross dog; in recent years a moggy cat and two Shiba Inu (dogs) I regularly walked as well as many fish over the years. As detailed below I have dealt with a number of medical issues with my animals and have also made their food to manage dietary issues. Matt had moggies and Labradors growing up so is used to dogs needing a fair amount of exercise. Matt has looked after farm dogs and we have both taken care of a friend’s ring necked Parrot on a number of occasions.
We have rented for many years and have been responsible tenants. We have both dealt with various household issues quickly and responsibly. We have both done housesitting previously and would care for your home and pets as though they were our own; that is a guarantee. We take our responsibilities in pet sitting very seriously and aim to make your pets as happy and settled as possible.
GIVING MEDICATION – I have had experience with numerous medications with both Shiba Inu and my last cat. Kobe had glaucoma and cataracts and went blind (although still a happy boy). I have also dealt with pet cancer and epilepsy and I am able to give eye drops and oral medication. As an RN Matt has a good understanding of medications, their interactions and how they work.
POLICE CHECKS - Being a Federal Government employee, I have been through several security checks and have a current security clearance. As a Registered Nurse Matt has up-to-date Police and Working with Children Checks. All verification can be provided on request. We are tidy, resourceful, self-sufficient people, and understand the trust put in us when looking after your home and beloved pets. We take our responsibilities at your place very seriously, respecting your guidelines, any training you have done with your pets, any specialised meals they require and also your privacy. We want you to have complete peace of mind and enjoy your holiday. Please feel free to get in contact, and ask us any questions you like!
